Career Opportunity:
The Director - Technical & Quality Systems - Containerboard reports to the VP-Quality & TSS and serves as the lead for management of the quality programs and systems for the containerboard mills
The role is responsible for leading all primary activities in the division related to continuous improvement, quality systems and processes. It is the responsibility of this individual to drive consistency in all quality processes across the organization.
This role is designed to ensure that containerboard mill products support the segments go-to-market strategy from a performance and fit-for-use perspective. This position will work closely with the individual technical leads at the mills to ensure common approaches are followed, and functions as the primary authority for quality processes and procedures.
The individual will be responsible for cultivating a strong quality culture throughout the organization. An additional key attribute of the position is to ensure that the communication linkage between the mills and internal customers is robust and effective.
The person in this role will be forward thinking and willing to embrace new approaches, technologies and concepts in relevant areas to the position. The individual must keep abreast of innovation in quality concepts and industry trends and be prepared to champion change as needed. The role requires an individual that aggressively looks for opportunities.
How You Will Impact WestRock:
Focusing on execution of initiatives through formation of work teams and relationship development. This roll requires an individual who is inclusive and willing to listen to the opinions of others, but that once a direction is set is able to drive to the conclusion effectively and with pace.
Managing projects related to quality across the mill division, whether implementation of change or by maintenance of existing systems.
Leading the team of professionals that manages divisional level quality programs.
What You Need to Succeed:
* A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering or paper science. A relevant science degree would also be considered when supported by relevant industry experience.
* At least 20 years of experience in the containerboard industry, preferably in a manufacturing or process engineering role. Prior work experience in technical sales would be an asset.
* A strong grasp of statistics and process analysis.
* Experience with managing ISO or similar quality programs. Lead auditor certification would be an advantage.
* Have the initiative, resourcefulness, and/or requisite experience to match or manage the development of technical solutions to our customer needs or opportunities through management or implementation of quality systems and processes.
* Ability to clearly understand WestRock's internal and external customers' needs and clearly interpret and communicate them within the company.
* Analytical ability to compile data and generate descriptive analysis to support proposals and drive change.
* Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to create compelling written and presentation materials using MS Office programs.
* A hands-on professional that is equally comfortable working individually or leading cross-functional teams. The person is able to build strong relationships with WestRock's manufacturing, sales organization and customers.
* Promotes a safe and clean working environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations.
* Ability to travel up to.60%
* Additional language skills in French or Spanish would be a positive.
