Senior Director, Operations JanSport & Eagle Creek: Become the Newest Member of the VF Family

The JanSport & Eagle Creek Sr. Director of Operations is a key part of The JanSport & Eagle Creek Leadership Team and is ultimately responsible for the end to end supply chain strategies and overall execution. This role has direct oversight for numerous functional areas including demand & supply planning, inventory management, S&OP, warranty, quality, and master data. This role has indirect oversight, but leadership accountability, for functional areas including customer service, logistics, distribution, compliance, sourcing, and customs. The person in this role is responsible for talent selection and ongoing growth and development of The Supply Chain Operations Team. This role also sets the vision of success for the supply chain, sets the framework for achieving this vision, and establishes control related standards and procedures to track progress and execution. Ultimate objectives include working with the leadership team to achieve financial targets (such as sales, margin, profit), delivering on inventory targets, and ultimately servicing customers (internal & external) and consumers appropriately. This role will help create and champion key projects to move supply chain operations forward. This position is based out of the VF Headquarters Office located in Denver, Colorado.

How You Will Make a Difference:

  • Oversees, manages, and measures the performance of the JanSport / Eagle Creek Supply Chain. Ensures appropriate execution of supply chain activities. Drives strategic thinking to evolve supply chain capabilities.
  • Partners closely with other members of the JanSport / Eagle Creek Leadership Team to collectively achieve goals and objectives.
  • Ensures brand drives towards key VF Supply Chain Strategies, such as improving the speed of bringing products to market.
  • Responsible for the growth, development, and evaluation of members of The Supply Chain Team.
  • Partners with cross functional stakeholders to continuously evolve processes and procedures within and across departments to achieve desired results. Partner closely with this group to define a shared calendar with clear milestones that each team is held accountable for.
  • Responsible for developing demand forecasts and appropriately procuring supply for all channels to service demands. At the same time, manages inventory to achieve key planned metrics (such as inventory days and inventory & sales ratios). Partners with sales and finance counterparts on liquidation strategies related to excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Responsible for ensuring an S&OP process is in place that proactively identifies issues and works to resolve them. Aligns with cross functional partners on demand signals, supply issues & opportunities, inventory, and sku management. Maintains a forward-looking plan to ensure material availability and vendor capacity.
  • Coordinates with the Sales and Finance Departments to establish annual, seasonal, and monthly forecasts. Works closely with Sales and Supply Chain Team to achieve monthly and quarterly forecasts.
  • Works closely with Sourcing to ensure appropriate costing, vendor matrix & adherence to VF standards, appropriate capacity, po placement, on-time supply delivery, inventory management, and production quality. Serves as the expert in this area when interfacing with the JanSport / Eagle Creek Leadership Team.
  • Works closely with VF Logistics and Distribution to ensure appropriate service levels, efficiencies, and costs are being achieved. Partners closely on related projects. Serves as the expert in this area when interfacing with the JanSport / Eagle Creek Leadership Team.
  • Responsible for servicing internal and external customers appropriately. Ensures Customer Service Teams meet or exceed defined service level metrics and other key performance measurement indicators.
  • Ensures end-to-end supply chain organization delivers product to meet quality standards and achieve on-time metrics. Ensures warranty operation meets desired service level objectives.
  • Serves as a key leader for Supply Chain Related Systems. Examples of these include those related to forecasting, inventory management, order management, and planning. Ensures key projects to evolve systems have the appropriate supply chain engagement and oversight.

    Years of Related Professional Experience: 10+ years

    Educational/ Position Requirements:

  • BA or BS degree in Supply Chain, Business Management, Engineering, or related field. MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of Supply Chain Management experience.
  • Experience in forecasting, supply planning, inventory management, S&OP, and Project Management required. Strong preference for experience working with Sourcing, Customer Service, Distribution, Logistics, Allocation, and other supply chain related disciplines.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively across functional areas to achieve objectives.
  • Proven ability to grow and develop talent.
  • Ability to manage a diverse group of individuals, lead change, and inspire work toward a common goal.
  • Track record of establishing and implementing processes and executing to a clear goal.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
  • Ability to determine best practices, implement them, and document accordingly.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality around sensitive topics.
  • Proven ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to top management.
  • Ability to understand and apply advanced analytical concepts in an operational environment.
  • Proven ability to leverage technology and systems to drive efficient and effective reporting and processes. Strong Excel skills required. Strong preference for hands on experience with other supply chain operational systems (such as those related to ERP, Forecasting, Supply Planning, Allocation, Fulfillment, Vendor & Performance Management, etc.)
  • Domestic and international travel as required (roughly 25% - 35% of the time).
