Requisition Number: 18479 Location: Boulder, Colorado Employment Type: Research Faculty Schedule: Full-Time Close All Job Summary The Sleep and Neuroinflammation research lab in the Department of Integrative Physiology is seeking an exceptional candidate for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate, to work on an innovative project to elucidate the role of sleep disruption on the etiology and pathogenesis of Alzheimer?s disease. This NIH-funded position is an academic research role where you will conduct a specified program of research supported by research training under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. Responsibilities include conducting high-quality, innovative research in the areas of sleep, neuroinflammation, and Alzheimer?s disease pathogenesis, preparing and publishing scientific manuscripts, providing leadership within our research group, and carrying out other research and professional service activities. The initial term of the position is one year, with the possibility of annual renewal for up to an additional 4 years, dependent on continued funding and job performance. This position will start no later than September 2019. Who We Are The Sleep and Neuroinflammation Laboratory?s (PI: Dr. Mark Opp) primary focus is to determine how chronic insufficient sleep induces, or contributes to inflammatory disease. Current research is supported by the National Institutes of Health and the University of Colorado. The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) is the flagship campus of the University of Colorado system and one of the top state-affiliated research universities in the United States. In addition to Integrative Physiology, the College of Arts and Sciences: Division of Natural Sciences houses numerous nationally recognized science departments including Physics, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, and Chemistry/Biochemistry, along with several internationally renowned research institutes that provide access to shared core facilities. The CU Boulder Department of Integrative Physiology was ranked sixth overall among Physiology units in the U.S. in the most recent (2010) National Research Council report on doctoral programs. The Department of Integrative Physiology is one of the top four departments in extramural funding in the Division of Natural Sciences and has the second largest number of undergraduate student majors (~1800) on the CU Boulder campus. The Department has ~22 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 9 full-time instructors, and ~70 graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) students. Faculty research and the undergraduate and graduate curriculums focus on physiological function from molecules and genes to human populations and public health. For more information about our group, see: What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be Your specific responsibilities in this position will be to complete part of an NIH-funded project to understand the role of sleep-wake disturbances in the development of Alzheimer?s disease. You will design and conduct experiments according to the aims of the grant; collect and analyze the data; prepare the data for publication in peer-reviewed academic journals, travel to and present at research conferences, provide mentoring to undergraduate and graduate students in our lab and assist in the development of funding proposals. What We Require A Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in a field relevant to neuroscience or physiology, conferred no later than August 2019.
