Requisition Number: 18442 Location: Boulder, Colorado Employment Type: University Staff Schedule: Full-Time Posting Close Date: 13-Jun-2019 Close All Job Summary The Land-Potential Knowledge System project (LandPKS; landpotential.org) is looking for a Global Coordinator. LandPKS is a mobile app that helps users more sustainably manage their land. Use of the app is growing exponentially throughout the world. This is an exciting opportunity with high potential for a large impact on livelihoods and the land. The ideal candidate has excellent people and organizational skills, and understands how mobile technology can support farmers, ranchers, gardeners, extension agents, land use planners, and citizen scientists access knowledge and information to make well-informed decisions. LandPKS is designed to increase food security, and support climate change adaptation, sustainable agriculture, land use planning, rural livelihoods, and biodiversity conservation. The Coordinator also has the opportunity to lead and/or co-author popular and academic articles depending on their interest. The position is housed within CU s Sustainability Innovation Lab at Colorado (SILC) and is also affiliated with the USDA-ARS Jornada Research Unit in Las Cruces, NM. Who We Are The Sustainability Innovation Lab at Colorado (SILC) is a space at CU-Boulder to co-design and develop the knowledge, capacity and technology to create a more sustainable world. SILC provides both programming and a unique university co-working environment to bring together the private and not-for-profit sectors to solve problems in sustainability. SILC is founded on the premise that the most persistent and challenging global problems can be solved through new partnerships linking education, innovation, and entrepreneurship. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be Project Management, Administration, and Support Guide future direction of LandPKS with project lead and prioritize potential improvements to the LandPKS app based on stakeholder input (surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc.). Translate these into specific tasks and milestones for software, app, and web developers. Develop and maintain relationships with US and international project partners, including university faculty and other scientists, community representatives, government agencies, development organizations and other software and app developers. Facilitate and maintain an active group of app users and provide technical support; organize international and US-based workshops as needed. Respond to inquiries from current and potential app users. Maintain information necessary for reports, and contribute to and/or lead report writing, review and submittal in cooperation with project lead. Coordinate the efforts of the international LandPKS team on technology design and development, including writing specific instructions for software developers, and working with them to meet the requirements of extremely diverse users. Outreach, Education, and Marketing Lead outreach and promotion of the LandPKS app on a diversity of communication channels (oral, written and online); and lead the writing and updating of LandPKS user guides, training materials, K-12 curriculum development, and train-the-trainer documents. Supervision Coordinate with and support international cooperators to facilitate implementation of project objectives. This may include directly supervising LandPKS staff and Country Coordinators as needed. Supervision received and exercised: This position reports to the LandPKS Global Lead. This position includes some supervision of LandPKS-affiliated staff and/or students and specifically includes supervision of LandPKS Country Coordinators. What You Should Know Candidates must have a willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to three months/year for periods ranging from several days to a month. Candidates must have ability and willingness to relocate to Boulder, CO. What We Can Offer The anticipated starting salary is $62,000.00, commensurate with experience. What We Require Bachelor's degree in a social science or STEM field with an emphasis or interest in natural resources. At least three years post-undergraduate experience (including volunteer work such as Peace Corps). Experience working or volunteering internationally. What You Will Need Excellent project management with the ability to manage, initiate, and focus on multi tasks in an effective manner. Highly detail oriented with strong ability to understand constituent needs and lead teams toward a common goal. Creative problem solver with strong critical thinking skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to synthesize information in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively engage with a broad range of stakeholders, including smallholder farmers, NGO's and government officials (ideally demonstrated through previous experience). Ability to work with stakeholders and translate their use cases and requirements into app and website-design specifications. General understanding of the factors that (a) determine the land's potential productivity, and (b) contribute to land use and management decisions. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 3 months/year for periods ranging from several days to a month. Desire to work in a technology product-driven environment and with others involved in projects that foster environmentally sustainable practices and tools that address societal grand challenges. Willingness to work in a technical environment. A commitment to advancing environmentally sustainable practices at local to global scales. Sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural, political and geographical differences, with ability to work well with others, both locally and globally. What We Would Like You To Have MSc or PhD in a social science or STEM field with an emphasis or interest in natural resources or five years post-undergraduate work experience. Data, information, and knowledge management experience, including databases. Experience coordinating a (small or large) diverse and extended project team.
