The JEDI project is an inter-agency effort aimed at developing a unified community Data Assimilation (DA) system for research and operations. This position provides support for handling, storing and retrieving observation data across JCSDA. The Software Engineer will be in charge of developing tools for pre-processing observations, for making them available to the data assimilation system in the expected format, and for archiving and retrieving them for other uses. The Software Engineer will design and implement an interface to make archived observation data accessible from the multiple computing platforms accessible to JCSDA scientists across partner organizations, possibly using cloud storage solutions. The Software Engineer will also contribute to the evolution of the system towards a real-time continuous ingest of observations by the data assimilation system, which will create new requirements and pose new challenges for the pre-processing and archiving/retrieval components. This position will be located at UCAR in Boulder, CO.
