The Metropolitan Museum of Art is looking for a talented Front-End Engineer who is an expert in modern web technologies and has built amazing websites. You are someone who loves collaborating with a tight-knit group of engineers, designers and product owners, and want to build products and experiences that will delight millions of users and create impact across the globe. We're looking for someone who can take ownership of front-end experiences and who has the ability to rapidly produce and deliver results. They have a proven track record of earning the trust of fellow engineers and of product and UX team members.
The Met's Digital team crafts the experiences that bring the Museum's incredible art collection and visitor experience into the digital world. Our work is the result of constantly seeking out new ideas to solve user problems. We make data-driven decisions to support building a deeper understanding of our audiences and of the impact of our work. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Develop new user-facing features in coordination with UI/UX and informed by our Product team
Evaluate the technical feasibility of designs, working closely with our UX team and Product
Build reusable code and libraries for future use
Work iteratively within a group of cross-functional developers
Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability
Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience and Skills:
2-5 years of experience developing medium to large scale websites in a team-based environment
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and understand product strategy.
Expert understanding of web markup, including HTML5 and CSS3
Strong understanding of modern front-end application frameworks such as React, Angular, etc.
Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to handle them.
Proficient understanding of Git.
Good understanding of SEO principles and ensuring that applications will maximize findability.
Experience with tasks runners (e.g. Gulp or Grunt) and package managers (e.g. npm)
Knowledge of ES6
Experience with test driven and/or behavior driven development is a plus
Basic knowledge of image authoring tools to be able to crop, resize, or perform small adjustments on an image. Familiarity with tools such as as Gimp, Photoshop, or Sketch is a plus.
Experience building single-page web apps a plus
