AES Distributed Energy (DE) is seeking two Electrical Operations Technicians to support its growing portfolio of photovoltaic (PV) solar facilities throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

AES DE, a wholly owned subsidiary of The AES Corporation, specializes in developing, owning, and operating distributed generation PV solar projects and PV solar combined with energy storage projects. AES DE currently has over 220 MW of solar energy projects in operation in the U.S., with an additional 100+ MW in construction and 500+ MW contracted or in development.

A day in the life of an AES DE Electrical Operations Technician will include:

Monitoring daily operation performance of the MA/RI solar facilities; Planning and performing preventative & corrective maintenance on PV solar equipment; Based out of your home, travel to solar facilities to perform preventative and corrective maintenance; and Coordinating and managing contractors engaged to support the maintenance activities.

The successful candidates will have a depth of experience in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of AC and DC electrical systems of varying types and voltages with a strong preference for candidates with experience working with PV solar and Battery Energy Storage systems. These positions will be based centrally within AES DE s portfolio of assets in Massachusetts and Rhode Island with regular regional travel to attend to the sites needs in the region.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Communicate operations/maintenance events on a routine basis utilizing a combination of phone calls, emails, and daily production reporting.
  • Participate in the construction/commissioning of the facilities within the region, working closely with the AES DE construction team to ensure a high-quality build and successful commissioning of the facilities.
  • Acquire and retain vendors and third party contractors to assist the facility, when maintenance activities exceed the on-site knowledge, capabilities, and/or certification levels.
  • Create and maintain a consumables and critical spare parts list, submitting Purchase Requests as required to order new parts and consumables.
  • Lead/support warranty claims processes with vendors as needed.
  • Skills and Qualifications:

  • Appropriate Electrical trade qualification with at least 3-years working on utility scale electrical systems.Experience working with C&I or utility scale PV systems, highly preferred.Experience with Battery Energy Storage systems, a plus.College degree in a related field, a plus.
  • High degree of commitment to a quality safety culture and an incident-free work environment.
  • Trained and knowledgeable on the application of NFPA 70e regulations (arc flash/blast hazards) and the Lockout/Tagout/Grounding protocols for electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend and troubleshoot from equipment/facility schematics.
  • Ability to work remotely and utilize technology to stay connected to colleagues in the Boulder, CO main office.
  • Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum direct supervision.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well versed in the use of the Microsoft Office software suite.
  • Willingness to travel regionally in a company provided service vehicle to support company s solar assets.
  • Currently located in the region within a 20-mile radius of the corridor between Worchester, MA and Providence, RI.
