AES Distributed Energy (AES DE) is currently seeking a Business Development Analyst to assist project development efforts as a member of AES DE s Greenfield Business Development team. The Greenfield team is tasked with internal self-origination and development of solar and solar + storage projects in comparison to its other business development team which includes channel partners and acquisitions. The successful candidate will assist project development efforts by performing key tasks to support AES DE greenfield projects from initial site identification up to commencement of construction. This is a fast paced role working with internal and external key stakeholders and will provide immediate exposure to all aspects of solar project development.

This position will be based in AES DE s headquarters of Boulder, Colorado and reports to the Director of Business Development. The role requires the ability to work on multiple tasks and projects and may include some travel as needed. The successful candidate will work on a cross functional team with origination, project development, legal, finance, engineering, construction, and outside consultants, landowners, customers, project stakeholders and utility companies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify potential solar project sites throughout the country by reviewing project maps and databases including GIS
  • Analyze potential sites for feasibility and help maintain project site database
  • Assist origination team to secure site control through mailers and landowner negotiations
  • Conduct land, market, regulatory and related project research
  • Assist with efforts to secure interconnection rights from utilities
  • Assist in proposals and RFP responses
  • Work with outside consultants to have required site studies and surveys performed
  • Compile documentation, attend meetings, conduct necessary studies, and perform other tasks as needed to obtain permits for solar projects at the local, state, and federal level
  • Support internal reporting on pipeline and project tracking efforts
  • Support project schedule and budget creation and management
  • Represent AES DE in the field and attend site visits as needed
  • Work with internal teams and perform additional duties to assist in project development as required
  • Skills and Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in engineering, environmental sciences, geography or related field
  • 0 to 3 years of experience in project management or development experience in renewable energy or related field
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software with strong Excel skills
  • Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS and Google Earth preferred
  • Passion for renewable energy development preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Basic knowledge of solar project development, utilities, interconnection, permitting, contracting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum supervision
  • Willingness and ability to travel 5-10% on average
  • Energy storage knowledge a plus
