Job Description Performs responsible work overseeing the organizing, promoting and implementing recreational activities; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision of Recreation Manager.

This is heavy work, requiring the exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions including extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions; the worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Examples of Duties: Recreation Leader-In-Training:
Assists with the implementation of all camp recreational activities
Prepares program facilities, organizes supplies, and equipment
Assists in scheduling events
Enforces standards of discipline and conduct by program participants
Assists in the organization of recreational activities
Maintains and inventories recreation equipment, materials, and supplies
Leads groups of participants in recreational activities
Provides information to the public regarding programs and activities
Performs related duties as required

Recreation Leader I:
Performs all essential functions of a Recreation Leader-In-Training
Provides First Aid as needed

Recreation Leader II:
Performs all essential functions of Recreation Leader-in Training and Recreation Leader I
Opens and closes recreation facilities

Recreation Leader III:
Performs all essential functions of Recreation Leader-in-Training, Recreation Leader I and II
Plans organizes, and implements recreational activities
Supervises the overall administration recreational activities
Recommends and requisitions equipment and supplies for camp
Assists in the preparation of manuals, announcements, bulletins and related materials
Leads groups of participants in recreational programs and during events
Maintains camp records and statistics

Recreation Leader IV:
Performs all essential functions of Recreation Leader-in-Training, Recreation Leader I, II and III
Supervises, schedules, and assists with training subordinate staff
Provides overall supervision, scheduling, planning, and implementation of the camp program
Schedules and implements additional special events for camp
Ensures compliance with the camps standards of conduct and discipline
Prepares manuals, announcements, bulletins and related materials
Ensures that all safety procedures are followed
Typical Qualifications: General knowledge of the methods and practices of community recreation, general knowledge of the equipment, techniques and relevant rules of recreational programming; some knowledge of personal computers and computer applications; ability to instruct common recreational activities; ability to establish effective working relationships with other workers, program participants, and the general public; ability to enforce rules and regulations and help maintain discipline; ability to withstand exposure to direct sunlight, heat and humidity.

Education and experience:
Must have current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification and possession of a valid driver's license (except of Recreation Leader-In-Training)

Recreation Leader-In-Training
Must be at least 16 years of age and completed two years high school

Recreation Leader I
Must be at least 16 years of age and completed three years high school

Recreation Leader II
Must be at least 18 years of age and completed one year of college

Recreation Leader III
Must be at least 18 years of age and completed two years of college

Recreation Leader IV
Must be at least 21 years of age and completed three years of college
