As a NICU Nutrition Tech you need to know how to:
Act as a receptionist for mothers who aredropping off and storing expressed breast milk in the hospital.
Ensure appropriate education for properlabeling, transport and storage.
Retrieve daily orders for feedings.
Calculate new formulations or standardizedrecipes. Obtain verification formulation with the NICU registered dietitian orpatient s provider as needed.
Prepare expressed breast milk, donor milk orformula according to provider order.
Label and scan all feedings per NICU guideline.
Distribute prepared feedings to the bedside atappropriate intervals.
Clean and sterilize the equipment used for dailymilk/formula preparation and any other reusable feeding equipment.
Ensure proper operation of all equipment andreport problems to the appropriate supervisor.
Clean and disinfect returned grant and rentalbreast pumps.
Maintain all refrigerators, freezers, coolersand any other equipment used for storing or transporting feedings, and maintaindaily temperature logs for prep room appliances.
Participate as a member of the NICU NutritionCommittee.
Participate as a member of Quality Assurance Teamthat develops and reviews plan for all steps in milk preparation andadministration according to HACCP process.
Report to the NICU Manager and secondarily tothe NICU Lactation Consultant.

High School diploma or equivalent, required
Minimum of one (1) year in a direct carehospital or clinic office setting with exposure to all day-to-day operationalfunctions, required
Strong customer service, communication andcomputer skills, required
Knowledge of medical terminology, required
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organizetasks in a fast paced setting, required
Excellent math skills with the ability to pass atimed math test, required
Ability to read, analyze and interpret technicalprocedures/policies related to the NICU Nutrition Room as well as demonstrateknowledge and skill in pasteurization/aseptic technique and in basic milk expressionmanagement and techniques, required
Pediatric or subspecialty experience, preferred
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish,preferred
