As a Medical Assistant you need to know how to:
Perform general administrative and patient caretasks in accordance with the SCL MGPS MA Scope of Practice, and otherestablished policies and procedures.
Possess the ability to communicate effectivelyand diplomatically within a multidisciplinary care team.
Greet and prepare patients for the health careprovider while maintaining a positive and caring attitude.
Be attentive to patient s needs, coordinatecare, administer care, and document appropriately.
Provide for patient safety and protection ofpatient privacy rights by observing HIPAA regulations.
Obtain and record patient information; vitalsigns, height, weight, allergies, current medications, medical history, andchief complaint, etc.
Demonstrate knowledge of examination, diagnosticand treatment room procedures.
May be required to draw and collect bloodsamples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
Per Provider request, may perform routine testsincluding but not limited to EKG s, hearing and vision screens.
Schedule patients for diagnostic testing andfollow up as appropriate to ensure completion of testing.
Communicate test results to patients andestablish plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the Provider.
Document patient plan(s) of care, tests andexamination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.
Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments andmaintain equipment; stock patient exam rooms while maintaining cleanliness andorganization, and dispose of contaminated items according to protocol.
Administer ordered medications and/or vaccinesvia oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalantadministration.
Escalate non-routine issues, questions and/orconcerns to the practice manager and/or healthcare provider(s).
Ensure safety checklists/quality controls arecompleted as required.
Demonstrate sound judgment and composure withthe ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
Promote mission, vision, and values of SCLHealth, and abide by service behavior standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.

High School Diploma or equivalent, required
Current BLS certification, required
Minimum of three (3) months of previous experiencewithin a healthcare setting, required
Successful completion of initial MA onboardingprogram within 90 days, annual skills fair, and in-services for site specifictasks, required
Ability to successfully function in a fastpaced, service oriented environment, required
Strong organizational skills and attention to detailand accuracy, required
Completion of an approved course of Medical Assistantstudy, preferred
Successful completion of an Accredited NationalCertification Exam (i.e.: AAMA or AMT) for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA)or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), preferred
At least one (1) year of Medical Assistantexperience, preferred
