Responsibilities
The Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) is an engineering organization that focuses on product producibility and mission assurance. It is a vital link in the integrated product development process that allows Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) to introduce reliable new products faster, better and more economically.
A successful candidate for the Mechanical Engineering, Structural Analyst position will lead and perform Structural Analyses on a wide variety of complex remote sensor system programs built for airborne, ground, sea and space-based platforms. You will lead structural analysis tasks on a larger mechanical design/analysis team as a senior analyst, will provide guidance to more junior structural engineers and will perform structural analyses yourself as needed. Tasks will include the evaluation of the structural integrity of electronic RF and EO/IR systems for static and dynamic strength, stiffness, fatigue, instability and thermal-elastic effects. More advanced analysis techniques using non-linear methods may be required when needed. You will work to drive the efficiency and integrity of the structural design and will be a key presenter in design reviews.
Required Skills:
* 10 plus years of experience using state of the art Finite Element Analysis and closed-form calculation techniques to perform structural analyses of systems subjected to shock, vibration, static, pressure, acoustic and thermal environments; to assess for strength, buckling, fatigue and other failure modes.
* Experience leading and performing quality structural analyses under aggressive budgets and schedules.
* Strong leadership skills to effectively drive a team of structural analysts using clear and concise communication, strong organizational skills and planning experience.
* Expertise with the commercial Finite Element Analysis software packages PATRAN and NASTRAN.
* Ability to develop system-level models and generate dynamic and random vibration loads for metallic bolted, brazed and welded structures.
* Ability to solve unique and challenging structural problems by applying critical thinking skills and a working knowledge of scientific principles, theories and concepts. Able to efficiently architect new systems with a big-picture perspective, structural load-path insight and relevant experience.
* Drive results and consistently achieve goals, even under difficult circumstances. Drive tasks to successful closure and show determination in the face of obstacles.
* Ability to effectively mentor more junior engineers on analysis methodologies and industry standards.
* Drive innovation by exploring multiple alternatives to overcome obstacles and find solutions. Actively seeks opportunities to innovate, file intellectual property and patents, and push existing boundaries into new technologies.
* Ability to conceptualize test plans, develop test procedures, lead tests and author reports to verify the structural integrity of mechanical systems.
* Ability to access U.S.-only data systems.
* U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.
Desired Skills:
* Experience with the structural analysis software package ABAQUS CAE.
* Experience with the commercial CAD software package PTC Creo (Pro/Engineer).
* Experience with composites, honeycomb, bonded, lattice and additive manufactured materials.
* Develops software tools to standardize analysis methods and increase organizational efficiency.
* Experience performing structural analyses on electronic components/modules/systems.
* Knowledge of electronic packaging assembly and manufacturing processes.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, having the ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical information to customers.
* Knowledge of fracture mechanics, crack initiation and growth analysis methods.
* Experience with the Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint).
* Ability to understand detailed engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications.
Required Education:
Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's of Science degree from an accredited university with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering Structures or a related discipline, and a significant amount of related industry experience.
Desired Education:
Master's Degree of Science.
