To assist in providing quality patient care while maintaining positive levels of interaction with facilities and clients, under the direction of a licensed or registered Physical Therapist. Adheres to applicable state regulation concerning physical therapy.
Under the direction of the licensed/certified physical therapist, optimizes physical abilities and skills of patients in facilities by: assisting in protocols of screening; implementing treatment for all assigned patients; delivering treatment to achieve identified objectives according to the established treatment plan; accurately documenting progress toward objectives; and communicating patient status and needs to the patient, the patient's family, the staff, the supervising Physical Therapist, and other professionals as appropriate.
Builds a strong rehabilitation care practice within each facility by: establishing and maintaining courteous and helpful interaction patterns with staff, patients and families which reflects sensitivity to individual needs and a problem solving approach; contributing to facility patient care, utilization review, administrative staff/department head, and family conference activities/communications as directed by the physical therapist; establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other health care professionals and colleagues in the community; maintaining awareness of change in patient populations, patient conditions and programs and keeping the licensed or registered physical therapist informed directly and in a timely manner, or patient progress and facility issues; adhering to the requirements of the patient's Bill of Rights; adhering to established facility policies and procedures related to environment safety, orderliness, risk management, infection control and emergency situations.
Continue professional development by expanding and enhancing clinical expertise, professional and management skills through interaction with managers, therapists and other professional staff, self-study, and other continuing education activities; maintaining valid state license/registration/certification (where appropriate); obtaining membership and participating in professional and community organizations; maintaining awareness of issues related to the profession of physical therapy and the health care environment.
Maintain administration requirements by: submitting billing, payroll and expense documentation in an accurate and timely manner, assisting in collection of statistics and updating records; informing appropriate staff and managers of patient progress and facility issues; and contributing to facility rehab goals and plans.
Understand managed care/Prospective Payment System (PPS) billing and treatment guidelines. Provide quality care as well as reasonable goals and outcomes within the guidelines.
Comply with infection control procedures and environment safety protocol within a facility. Must embrace the team concept and interdisciplinary care.
Ability to travel between facilities efficiently during scheduled hours.
Ability to work varying hours, including weekends and holidays.
Maintain confidentiality of Premier Therapy, facility and patient information.
Performs other duties or special projects as assigned; this description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
If working in a school environment, must be aware and compliant with IEP (Individualized Education Plan) process for treating school-aged children.

Graduate of an APTA approved school for Physical Therapy Assistants.
Valid state license/registration/certification (where appropriate).
Valid driver's license.
Ability to lift patients using appropriate biomechanical techniques frequently throughout the course of a work day/shift; must be capable of easily lifting fifty (50) pounds of dead weight alone.
Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during the work day/shift.
Visual, auditory and speaking skills sufficient to evaluate, diagnose, communicate, and monitor patient needs, and to maintain accurate records, recognize people and provide and understand written, verbal and gestural communications.
Ability to push wheeled equipment throughout the facility and in the community.
Fine motor skills for legible and accurate writing of reports, charting, scheduling, daily correspondence, and presentations.
Fine motor skills for effective and efficient handling of diagnostic or therapeutic equipment.
Ability to participate in sustained activity for many hours in duration in accordance with state labor laws.
