Panolam Surface Systems is a leading North American manufacturer of decorative surfaces, with facilities located throughout the US and in Canada. Panolam manufactures high-pressure decorative laminates, thermofused melamine panels and a variety of specialty laminates for decorative as well as industrial applications. We are seeking a Maintenance Manager for our Auburn, Maine manufacturing facility. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Manager position is accountable for building, leading and developing a maintenance team and ensuring an efficient, high quality, cost-effective operating facility. Responsibilities include development and implementation of preventative maintenance programs, successful management of capital projects, responding to mechanical failures in a timely manner, as well as working closely with the management team on initiatives to improve quality and reduce cost. The Maintenance Manager works to develop the skills and abilities of assigned staff and proactively makes recommendations. He/She must be a hands-on manager when required and must ensure all tasks are performed while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company. The Maintenance Manager will act as the voice of and will provide the vision for the department. Key Job Responsibilities: Plans and executes plant maintenance on a daily basis, including the determination of priorities and equipment needing maintenance repairs to optimize productivity. Schedules both preventative and critical tasks. Responsible for the preventative, reactive and future Plant maintenance and equipment. Plans maintenance work related to devising or adapting methods to improve manufacturing production. Reviews Maintenance work instructions. Offers technical guidance, reviews progress and advises procedural changes if required. Provides leadership and guidance to all maintenance staff, both hourly and salaried employees. Trains and enforces safety procedures and all applicable regulations. Works to Improve safety performance. Examines equipment, product processes, operations and assembly to determine time or quality revision. Leads and facilitates Total Quality and continuous improvement (Safety, Cost Reduction, Quality and Productivity). Tracks issues and conducts quality control inspections. Oversees inventory control system to ensure necessary equipment and parts levels are maintained. Examines cost estimates or proposals before approving. Acts as primary contact with outside vendors relative to maintenance projects. Approves expenses and manages the budget for the maintenance department. Prepares and submits the maintenance budget for approval to the Plant Manager and sets department goals as aligned with the goals established by leadership. Interfaces with support staff to maximize manufacturing reliability and output. Ensures customer and consumer issues are addressed. Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards. Ensures Department Coordinators properly document and record labor and training. Maintains proper documentation and records for expenses, maintenance and safety as coordinated by the Plant Manager. Hires, trains, evaluates employee performance, conducts corrective action sessions with employees, addresses complaints and resolves problems and discharges staff in coordination with human resources. Ensures implementation and enforcement of all Plant policies, procedures, State and Federal laws and regulation including those set by EPA, OSHA, etc. Competencies: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions. Interpersonal relations skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees. Adept at troubleshooting and resolving manufacturing, maintenance, financial and personnel issues. Ability to understand, interpret and present financial statements. Effectively communicates with, presents information to and responses to questions and concerns as it pertains to the grievance procedure. Independent decision-making and action. Demonstrates reliability, dependability, attendance and good work ethics. Consistently work in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow associates. Proven ability in choosing appropriate course of action while considering related costs and benefits. Skills: Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Excellent time management. Fluent in the Microsoft suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Peoplesoft software a plus. Flexible, detail oriented and ability to multitask. Strong mechanical and electrical skills. Excellent written and communication skills. Experience Required: 5- 10 years of relevant experience as a Maintenance Manager leading a Maintenance Department. Education: 4 year degree or higher Work will be performed in a climate controlled office and on the plant floor where working conditions may be dusty, hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Must be able to work overtime, off shifts, holidays and be on call for emergencies.
