Description

The Colorado CMI Business Unit Leader will provide leadership and direction for the CM/CI Practice Area. The primary responsibilities include client relationships, sales growth and managing the financial performance of the Practice Group. The ideal candidate is a seller-doer who combines excellent project delivery with an understanding of how to increase business with existing clients and market Otak s services to new clients. In building the business, the individual will also need to be actively involved with field work, with the percentage of field work decreasing as additional staff is added to the CO CMI group.

Summary of Qualifications:

A respected professional with 15+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of experience and education in construction management and inspection work.

Experienced in more than one area of construction (e.g. transportation, bridge, utilities).

A customer-oriented seller-doer who understands how to sell Otak s services, grow the CMI business and deliver high quality work.

Knowledgeable about the market and the competition.

Working knowledge of CDOT construction management procedures and staff.

A leader who inspires trust and respect from his/her team.

A leader who provides vision and motivation to team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Long Term Strategy

In collaboration with the CO Region Manager and within the framework of Otak s long range Strategic Plan, develops the overall direction for the CO CMI team.

Evaluates progress toward achievement of goals and leads the team in course corrections as needed.

Financial Management

Monitors CMI key performance indicators at least monthly including: revenue, profit, accounts receivable, utilization, backlog, and project variances and write-offs.

Prepares yearly CMI Business Plan and monitors its progress monthly and provides quarterly updates.

Leads or participates in project accountability meetings.

Marketing/Business Development

In collaboration with the Regional Manager (RM) and Client Managers (CMs) identifies current and future opportunities in key markets, identifies possible clients within the various markets, positions Otak for success with those clients, and coordinates business development activities.

Coordinates with the RM and Project Managers (PMs) to monitor and enhance client satisfaction, and oversees PM corrective actions in response to negative client feedback.

In collaboration with RM, CMs and Region Marketing Director, determines if the firm will participate in RFPs/SOQs and supports other departments in compiling proposal information.

Collaborates with Region Marketing Director and Marketing staff to write winning Statements of Qualifications and Porposals.

Coordinates with Administrative and Marketing staff to develop CMI-specific marketing materials as needed.

People Management

Monitors workload and resource planning, and coordinates work sharing. Coordinates with RMs and PMs in developing plans for each team member to meet worked hours and direct hours goals.

Coordinates with the RM in determining hiring needs including strategic hires across geographic areas.

Makes recommendations to RM and implements staffing adjustments as needed to balance workload and staffing levels.

Evaluates current team, determines staff desires for development and areas of weakness in technical knowledge, and identifies technical training opportunities based on this evaluation.

Establishes goals and objectives for each team member in areas of professional growth and in support of the overall business strategy of the firm.

Project Management & Delivery

Oversees the use of project management plans and appropriate quality assurance/quality control processes to ensure project quality and consistency of work.

Assures compliance with Quality Management System; participates in audits for CMI projects; assures non-conformances are addressed appropriately.

Hosts project debriefing and lessons learned sessions to evaluate project performance and determine necessary planning and execution adjustments.

Acts as PM and Project Engineer (PE) on projects as staffing requires while the CO CMI Business Unit grows.

Administrative Responsibilities

Ensures that company procedures and policies are adhered to within the CMI team e.g., safety management, document management, vehicles and equipment, etc.

During business planning, coordinates with the RMs in establishing software, equipment, vehicle, and other capital needs across the CMI practice; reviews requests for purchases.

Coordinates external and internal requests for information regarding the CMI practice.

Shares best practices with other CMI Business areas and practice areas.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises and mentors assigned staff.

Conducts business in accordance with the firm s policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities may include collaborating on interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing and managing work; approving timesheets and expense reports; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees;

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Professional Engineering License in Colorado, with Oregon and Washington preferred but not required.

Must have a valid driver s license and a good driving record.
