In this role, you will perform research aimed at investigating the biology of Babesia parasites in the Blood-Borne Parasites Lab of Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, the research branch of NYBC. Successful candidate will perform cutting-edge research that integrates red cell biology with parasite biology using innovative technologies and approaches including classic molecular, cellular, and biochemical techniques, genetic manipulation techniques (CRISPR/Cas9), as well as modern imaging techniques and bioinformatics.
* Utilizing both a mouse model and in vitro parasite culture systems to investigate the role of parasite exosomes in a variety of parasite and host biological processes * Performing daily molecular bench work * Handling and working with mice on a regular basis for routine experiments * Working on parasite cell culture and isolation of parasite stages * FACS and Image stream analysis * Processing and analyzing large amounts of data generated from miRNA arrays * Maintaining lab files related to the general lab * Reporting on research progress * Summarizing experimental data, assisting in the drafting of figures, results and methods for presentation and publication * Recommending and implementing process improvements within the lab * Handling other related functions as necessary
* Ph.D. degree * Demonstrated good record of high impact research and a strong scholarly record * Research experience handling and working with mice and basic laboratory techniques, including PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, flow cytometry and cell-based aseptic techniques * Ability to work independently with minimal supervision * Strong attention to detail in all work processes * Ability to participate in team meetings and provide input into experimental design * Work within a strong team environment; identify problems in a timely manner, evaluate options and implement solutions * Working knowledge of Microsoft office
