Job Title: Director/Lead Teacher Reports to: Head of School
Hours: 8am -3pm, Mon-Friday
Requirements: EEC Lead Teacher / Director I qualified Position Summary This position requires love, patience and respect for children. The teacher will encourage the children to be independent and model for them appropriate manners and behaviors. The teacher will also instruct children in work designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth following the philosophies of the Montessori Methods by performing the following duties: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.Because every classroom has special requirements, the Director may further outline the specifics of tasks and responsibilities-- Curriculum:-Establish the work period and give lessons as needed-Establish & maintain a neat, well organized and attractive environment true to the Montessori Philosophy-Pay attention to the needs of the individual students-Plan, prepare and maintain all units of study-including Montessori materials, thematic units, library books, etc. -Incorporate arrival and dismissal routines as one of the day's crucial transition periods.-Work to maintain health & safety standards with snack, lunch, hand washing and toileting. Communication:-Maintain a professional attitude, demeanor and appearance.-Works to develop close & effective relationships with parents.-Communicate via newsletters (1 X/month) and Facebook or email (1X/week) with parents about their children's school lives.-Contact and meet with specialists and/or parents regarding children with special needs.-Prepare for and schedule 2 individual communications with all parents during the school year-including 1 physical parent conference and 1 end of year report.-Work with other faculty for any Parent Nights, programs/performances, etc. Record Keeping:-Carefully and unobtrusively observe & keep daily records on each child's individual progression through the classroom.-Maintain your chosen system of record keeping.-Complete conference forms, as needed.-Participate in bi-weekly all staff meetings Supervision of Classroom Assistant:-Establish a harmonious relationship with assistant.-Conduct bi-weekly team meeting with assistant.-Participate in staff evaluation, as needed.-Direct assistant with specific expectations of daily & weekly classroom performance -daily tasks, material creation, specific area of classroom to maintain in order, etc.-Report to the Director any concerns or suggestions. Administration:-Ensure that the building, materials and grounds are safe, clean and maintained. Report any issues to the Director.-Organize planning time for changing out material, cleaning and reorganizing works. -Implement assistant teacher's help Education and/or experience Undergraduate degree or Higher Physical Demands:-While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and see.-The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.-Employee must occasionally move/lift up to 30 lbs.-Employee must pack up classroom materials & furniture on a weekly basis -At times, may require more than set work hours to perform the essential duties of the position.
