The Mount Sinai Short-Term Research Training Program for Minority Students invites current undergraduate, graduate students, and recent graduates to participate in a short-term training program at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, one of the most innovative teaching and research centers in New York City. This appointment is for 12 weeks, with a possible re-appointment for up to 24 weeks.
Trainees will work with a faculty mentor on a research project related to public health and environmental medicine. Research projects are available in many different disciplines including data science, epidemiology, health communication, molecular biology, genomics, and clinical disciplines among others.
Roles & Responsibilities:
* Conducting literature review * Developing a study design * Analyzing data * Drafting a manuscript for peer-reviewed journal publication
To be considered, you must meet all of the following eligibility criteria (1-5):
* A member of a health disparity population underrepresented in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social sciences as per the NIH definition, including: American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian, or Other Pacific Islander; socioeconomically disadvantaged populations; underserved rural populations; sexual and gender minorities; and persons with disabilities that substantially limit one or more major life activities * A U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or permanent resident * Currently enrolled in a graduate or doctoral degree program, or have graduated within 24 months of the application date. Undergraduates with proficient research and work experience may be considered * Available to commit a minimum of 12 weeks on a full-time basis. There is also a possibility of re-appointment (up to 24 weeks total) * A GPA of 3.0 or above * Applicants will be required to submit a current resume/CV, a personal statement (1-page maximum), and a statement of past research (1-page maximum)
