Job Title: Administrative Coordinator Nursing

Job Summary:

An Assistant Administrator is a registered professional nurse with progressive administrative experience who supports Clinical Nurse Managers and Clinical Directors of clinical unit groups/specialty areas to fulfill responsibilities for overall management of hospital and patient care services on assigned shifts.

Roles & Responsibilities:

* Assists clinical nurses to solve patient care problems.
* Coordinates flow of patients to assigned beds and collaborates with the Patient Access Service to facilitate appropriate patient placement
* Supports, implements, and interprets the philosophy, objectives, policies and standards for nursing care of patients and families.
* Investigates patient complaints and applies appropriate interventions as necessary. Refers follow-up solutions to clinical nurse manager or other appropriate person.
* Assists nursing staff with needle-stick injury follow-up as per Blood and Body Fluids Exposure policy (Infection Control policy B-3.2). Assists nursing personnel to establish and implement safety standards and to monitor environment for hazard.
* Identifies educational needs of staff and communicates needs to Clinical Nurse Manager and Education Specialist.
* Functions as a role model for staff by demonstrating appropriate knowledge base, competency in clinical abilities, technical skills and critical thinking.
* Participates in committee activities of the Nursing Department, and the Medical Center.
* Keeps knowledge current regarding trends and developments in nursing theory, practice and administration.
* Participates in and utilizes research pertinent to nursing practice.
* Assists clinical nurses to develop patient management and leadership skills.
* Provides feedback to Clinical Nurse Managers regarding performance of personnel assigned to shift of responsibility.
* Attends conferences for professional development and shares information with colleagues/ Nursing staff.
* Considers ethical issues with patient care and upholds the Code of Ethics in Nursing Practice.
* Maintains responsiveness to the diverse backgrounds and experiences of other people and promotes an environment that is sensitive to cultural diversity.
* Identifies, evaluates and intercedes in institutional problems of an immediate nature. Refers follow-up to appropriate department manager/administrator on call as needed and maintains continuity of communications between shifts through verbal report and concise written administrative report.
* Participates in the formation of personnel policies, interprets established policies and evaluates their effectiveness.
* Supports implementation of the vision, goals and objectives of the Department, Clinical Services, and individual patient care units.
* Determines utilization and allocation of personnel based on patient acuity, unit activity and staff competence.
* Facilitates coordination of care for designated area(s) of responsibility. Assists other Administrators in problem solving.
* Interprets institutional policies, goals, and philosophy of the hospital to appropriate personnel.
* Interprets and implements collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) affecting staff. Responds to Protest of Assignments (POAs) in a timely manner as detailed in the CBA
* Initiates counseling and/or disciplinary actions as appropriate.
* Appropriately and effectively represents the hospital in all external communications.
* Considers budgetary goals when facilitating staffing decisions such as staff OT approval and use of non-staff supplementation.
* Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives and implementation of corrective action plan.
* Participates in maintenance of compliance with regulatory agency standards.
* Demonstrates awareness of the identification, documentation and processing of core measure patients.
* Assists staff in death certificate process and contacting next of kin (Administrative policy A3-115).

Requirements:

* Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required; Master's Degree in Nursing preferred
* Relevant progressive clinical and administrative experience
* NYS RN License and current Registration
* MS Office Suite - Intermediate
