The Pension Asset Management Associate is responsible for assisting with investment activities related to the MetLife’s benefit plans. The position resides within MetLife’s Pension Investment Unit (“PIU”), which provides investment oversight and analysis related to the ongoing portfolio management of MetLife’s approximately $20 billion of Qualified and Non-Qualified employee benefit assets.

Key Responsibilities:  

Assist with the development and implementation of investment strategies for the benefit plans.
Assist the asset specialists with the oversight of investment activities related to the fixed income, equity and alternatives asset classes. This includes activities related to the hiring, monitoring and termination of third-party investment managers, with the objective of maximizing returns within specified risk parameters while ensuring fulfillment of all fiduciary responsibilities.
For new mandates, assist the asset specialist in the due diligence of respective candidates; evaluating their relative capabilities; and analyzing their investment styles, processes and biases. Develop comprehensive detailed recommendations for the MetLife Pension Committee to review and approval.
Prepare and analyze portfolio, risk, portfolio optimizations and market data to facilitate asset allocation decisions and ensure compliance with Investment Policy Statements (“IPS”).
Monitor activities related to the investments of third-party investment managers for the benefit plans. This includes, but is not limited to: investment performance, attribution analysis, portfolio holdings, organization, personnel, investment process and peer analysis. Ensure that results are meeting the expectations as defined for the given mandates and that all investment guidelines comply. Identify and manage potential investment risks.
Conduct ongoing fundamental investment research to evaluate and recommend relative value trades. When appropriate, assist in the development of procedures for the periodic asset rebalancing of the plans’ assets. Assist in periodic asset/liability studies, ensuring adoption of the industries’ latest trends in risk management.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


Action oriented and highly motivated in pursuing challenging projects. Strong interest in financial markets and asset management.
Uses rigorous methods and logic to solve difficult problems.
Ability to find common ground and solve problems, working within a team-oriented structure.


A minimum of 5 years pension/endowment/foundation experience.
Undergraduate degree required (MBA and/or Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”) designation preferred).
