In this exciting role as a Sr. Systems Engineer you willhave responsibility to lead, directand organize the planning, and execution of high-tech, released productdevelopment project teams from concept to commercialization in the medicaldevice arena. You will be reporting tothe R&D Systems Manager of Nellcor, INVOS and Temperature. In this role youwill be accountable for overall project requirements and alignment withclinical need, use cases and business expectation.

PATIENT MONITORING ANDRECOVERY focuses on improving outcomes associated with respiratorycompromise, deep vein thrombosis, nutritional insufficiency, and healthcareassociated infections.
Thiscandidate will be responsible for completing system engineering activities totranslate concepts into products that delight and serve our patients andclinical customers. This includesdefining and integrating sub-systems, features and technologies with a focus inpulse oximetry:
identification of clinician and customer needs,
development of use cases and the impact of patient and clinicianinteraction with the technology
creation of the system definition by translating clinician and customerneeds into engineering requirements,
understanding the regulatory requirements and strategy that complementthe product intent and launch strategy
defining the system architecture, partitioning, and developmentstrategy,
leading risk management activities,
creating system verification and validation strategies, and
system support and education
SystemEngineering activities typically involve trade-offs between risks, benefits,and performance. System Engineering activities are performed within theconstraints of a complex regulatory environment; in partnership withdevelopment (software, firmware, hardware, mechanical engineering), research,technology, clinical, regulatory, product planning and marketing groups.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership capabilitiesand have depth in one or more of the following areas:
userexperience mapping and design
understanding,defining, and designing to use cases
significantexperience in the hospital environment
priorexperience interacting with a variety of clinician customers
Lead and partner with functional team membersincluding Marketing, Clinical Affairs and Human Factors to fully understand theclinical need, problem being addressed and business goal
Represent the System Engineering organization asthe prime technical contact on projects. Interact with senior Medtronic andexternal personnel on significant technical matters often requiringcoordination between organizations.
Collaborate with internal andexternal stakeholders to develop Business and Customer Needs for new productdevelopment and create a systems architecture that meets these needs.
Organize and Lead key designtradeoffs, present to upper level management, and drive decisions. Demonstrate an extensive ability to foreseeproblems and provide alternate solutions.
Apply advanced knowledge ofbiomedical/ system engineering principles, system engineering competencies, andsystem engineering methodologies.
Consult on projects in theresearch phase and transition them into formal development
Develop a program risk burn downprofile and and translate this into a specific system integration strategy toaddress these risks.
Incorporate reliability principles and processesto demonstrate robustness during the design process
Develop and maintain clinical relationships withthought leaders in the field
Partner with the Verification andValidation team to define the high level V&V strategy
May identify, plan, monitor and execute tasksfor entire project. Work independentlyand may provide direction to other engineers working on the project.
Must Have: MinimumRequirements
Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of theUnited States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum 4 years of relevant experience, or advanceddegree with 2 years experience.

Experience in physiology and disease states to understand the clinicalproblem that is being solved and having the ability to interact with cliniciansin their environment and understanding the clinical environment
Experience managing complex medical technology developmentprograms. Exposure to systems engineering, concept engineering, hardware andsoftware development, validation and systems integration.
Master s degree in Engineering and/or scientific discipline
