Job Description

Associate Vice President and Dean of Students

Exciting and Significant Student Affairs Leadership Opportunity

Manhattan College is pleased to announce its search for an experienced Student Affairs professional to serve the College community as the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students (AVP/DOS). A senior leader in the Division of Student Life, the AVP/DOS will be expected to be an advocate for students, individually and collectively, and to ensure that programs and services reflecting best practices are in place to support their success. Reflecting the mission of the College, the AVP/DOS must possess a passion for meeting the needs of a diverse student body in an inclusive community that thrives in New York City.

The Associate Vice President and Dean of Students portfolio includes the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Students, and of the Directors of Residence Life, Counseling, and Health Services. Ultimately responsible for judicial affairs processes, the AVP/DOS has the opportunity to ensure that interactions with students are integrated and developmentally focused. A strong emphasis on working as a team to support these departments in their efforts to reflect and implement best practices in the field will ensure that students have the opportunity to be successful both academically and as citizens who reflect the Lasallian principles that are part of the fabric of Manhattan College.

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Life, the AVP/DOS has the opportunity and responsibility to share a vision for the future and the needs of the present in a manner that effectively advocates for the departments in the portfolio, while demonstrating how these will benefit the diverse student body. In addition, the AVP/DOS establishes and fosters collaborative efforts within the Division and across the campus that benefit students; for example, this position works with the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts to coordinate the Arches Living and Learning Community. This role is one in which regular direct interaction with students will be expected, as the AVP/DOS must be a visible and active member of the College community. This is an excellent opportunity for a Student Affairs professional seeking a significant leadership role that allows for substantial and substantive interactions with students.
