Job Summary:
The Director of Financial Aid reports to the Executive Director of Scholarships and Financial Aid and has an integral role in the division of Enrollment Management. The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the proper administration and coordination of all the federal, state, institutional and outside funds designated for student financial aid. Duties also include the direct supervision of staff in the Office of Financial Aid.
This position requires extensive knowledge of the Federal Student Aid Handbook governing federal financial aid programs. The incumbent should be a subject matter expert within the following financial aid business processes: IRS tax law, NCAA rules and regulations as they relate to student aid, federal work study program, gainful employment rules, common origination and disbursement, NSLDS, awarding financial aid, repackaging financial aid, default management, return of Title IV funds, verification, preparation of cost of attendance budgets, execution of Federal and State fiscal operations reports, counseling students/parents, professional judgment reviews, satisfactory academic progress policies, cost of attendance development, direct lending, alternative loans and the relationship between financial aid and scholarship programs.
This position requires a strong ability to take initiative, demonstrate disciplined organization and follow through to completion of all assignments in a timely manner. A demonstrated ability to prioritize and anticipate the needs of the processing unit is required. The incumbent supports the Executive Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships with auditing entities, the U.S. Department of Education, and other offices associated with the internal and external review of financial aid programs.
Major Essential Job Functions:
1. Assist the Executive Director in the evaluation, planning, organization and implementation of departmental policies, processes, activities, and other functions to maintain compliance, efficiency and productivity. 15%
2. Supervise all Financial Aid employees to include hiring, training, evaluations, and termination. This office processes and manages all Return of Title IV, Federal Work study, 3rd party billing/payments, waivers, exemptions, verification, indexing document images to student accounts, awarding, and all state and federal funds. 25%
3. Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations that govern student employment, scholarships, loans, and other financial aid programs. 15%
4. Review documentation such as C flag, Pell lifetime limits, unusual enrollment, and additional situations that require additional review for students' accounts. 10%
5. Advise students and review requests for professional judgments such as dependency overrides, income adjustments, homeless situations, or other unusual and extenuating circumstances that fall outside of the \"normal\" financial aid spectrum. 10%
6. Responsible to oversee financial aid presentations to various agencies to provide financial aid information and outreach to prospective and current students. 5%
7. Serve as contact with management personnel from other departments, including coordinators, directors, chairperson and assistant deans to ensure students are assisted thoroughly. 5%
8. Preparation and continued management of departmental budget. Reviews and approves expenditures of significant budgeted funds for the department. 10%
9. Maintain full capability to stand in for the Executive Director, as needed. 5%

Minimum Qualifications
Education Required:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Minimum Experience Required:
5 years of experience in Financial Aid.
2 Years of supervisory experience.
Experience in financial aid at a public college or university.
Key Competencies:
* Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding financial aid programs and the ability to interpret and ensure compliance with them.
* Strong computer skills using Office products (spreadsheets, word processing) and experience manipulating data with Excel.
* Knowledge of FERPA and other laws and regulations governing student aid.
* Strong analytical and organizational skills combined with careful attentions to detail.
* Self-motivated and goal oriented, team player.
* Ability to effectively communicate with a culturally and ethnically diverse populations in such a way that they feel comfortable.
* Ability to handle numerous complex and routine tasks simultaneously.
* Ability to effectively manage professional and support staff as well as student workers to produce that a positive work environment leading to high productivity levels and school loyalty.
* Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Must have experience in customer service, public speaking, electronic presentations, counseling, working in a fast-paced environment and making sound professional judgments based on federal, state and institutional regulations pertaining to the administrating of financial aid.
* Ability to understand and align processes in the Financial Aid office with the broader goals and mission of the division of Enrollment Management.
* Advanced knowledge in Banner, including Banner Document Management, Argos, and population selections.
