This position is part of a team responsible for operation of the County's multi-modal roadway system and the development of policies and plans to guide transportation investments. The team operates traffic signals, manages transportation plans, conducts safety analyses, manages traffic data and records; designs signs and pavement markings; and develops sources of revenue and grants. This position is primarily responsible for the development of policies and plans to guide transportation investments. Employee will perform complex professional work in transportation planning, management of programs related to transportation safety, reviewing plans for conformance with policies and regulations, and other assigned tasks.
About Jefferson County Transportation and Engineering: Jefferson County Transportation and Engineering Division provides professional services for planning, design and construction of county infrastructure, planning and operations for the county's multi-modal transportation network, and management of stormwater runoff. The division's objective is to administer all the capital improvement projects for paving, drainage, including design, contracting inspections and final acceptance of projects while being sensitive to the environment.

The Transportation Planner will be able to:
Assist in transportation plans and planning and/or traffic studies; solicit input from the public and other stakeholder groups; evaluate and implement changes as appropriate; make recommendations
Update and maintain adopted plans, including bike plan and ADA transition plan
Create GIS-based maps and integrate with county GIS efforts
Compile and summarize crash data; analyze data and make recommendations for improvements as appropriate; prepare work orders
Provide excellent customer service for assigned citizen inquiries regarding transportation safety, planning, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities
Review plans for proposed bicycle and pedestrian facilities in development applications, capital improvement projects, and safety/maintenance projects
Coordinate Bike to Work Day Station at the Jeffco Admin Building
Coordinate with other County staff to ensure that maintenance practices, development review, design/construction standards, land development regulations and other activities support walking and bicycling.
Researches, coordinates and implements pilot programs which test new approaches to design, encouragement programs, travel demand management efforts, and other efforts to increase transit ridership, walking, and bicycling.
Research alternative funding sources including grants, coordinate with neighboring jurisdictions on joint grant applications, and/or prepare applications as directed
Represent the county at regional planning forums, such as RTD and DRCOG on bicycle- and pedestrian-related issues.
Provide information and assistance to schools regarding bicycle and pedestrian safety, plans, and designs.
Prepare and/or present at staff meetings, Planning Commission hearings, and/or Board of County Commissioner hearings. Tasks may include responding to questions or concerns from stakeholders and participating in community meetings.
Update County Website to provide informational and educational materials regarding multi-modal safety
Bachelor's degree in planning, urban planning, geography, engineering or directly related field and minimum three years of related work experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
Experience in the use of ArcGIS software.
Three or more years of experience in transportation planning
Experience in the following software: Crash Analysis, MS Excel, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite
Knowledge of MUTCD standards

Must have valid driver's license, if you are from out of state, you must obtain a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire date, and you must not have any major violation, nor more than one DUI, DWI, DWAI conviction in the past three year.
