The Public Affairs Coordinator maximizes communication between various divisions, the public, the media, and other outside agencies. This position develops strategies for employee and/or public communication, works with various departments, implements efficient communication strategies, and coordinates activities to boost employee morale.

    The Public Affairs Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Research and cultivate content ideas for public outreach on different programs and services around Jefferson County.
  • Participate in developing communications strategies.
  • Write in clear, concise AP style for a variety of internal and external communications such as social media, websites, news releases, newsletters, brochures, reports, etc.
  • Develop relationships with employees to enhance communication and collaboration.
  • Editing articles and/or materials generated by other personnel.
  • Supervise and perform all aspects and content of videos, including script writing, recording, editing and postproduction to produce a final product to encourage employee and citizen engagement.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in media communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience with; social media and web management for an organization; video production and editing; and demonstrating editorial and brand standards.
  • Or a combination of education and experience
  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of background check and motor vehicle report. Must have a valid driver's license, if you are from out of state, you must have a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire date, and you must not have any major violations, nor more than one DUI, DWI, DWAI conviction in the past three years.

    Preferred qualifications:
  • High level of experience in Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • Experience with managing social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Experience working for governmental agency
  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential material
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Knowledge, skill, and attributes that lead to success in this role include:
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism or similar
  • Two or more years working with photography and video production
  • Strong creativity and ability to create visuals to reach a larger audience
  • Self-starter, self-sufficient and self-guidance mentality
