Associate Director of College Counseling
Position Description:
Gould Academy seeks an Associate Director of College Counseling to counsel students through the college admissions process and to assist the Director of College Counseling in the successful planning and implementation of the school's College Counseling program.
Job Summary
The Associate Director works as part of the College Counseling team to support students and their families in pursuit of attaining their higher education goals. This work extends throughout the Academy to advisors, teachers, coaches, and educational consultants. College Counselors help students in their junior and senior years to identify and articulate appropriate higher education goals, and then to make actionable plans to work toward them. College Counselors write letters of recommendation in support of each student in their caseload and act as both guides and advocates throughout the application and admissions process. They also work with the Director to coordinate developmentally appropriate programming to introduce ninth and tenth grade students and families to the early stages of college planning.
The Associate Director of College Counseling serves as a trusted leader in a consultancy role throughout the Academy - informing faculty members, parents, coaches, administrators, board members, and prospective students and families about the current landscape of college admissions. They also work to promote the Academy and deepen their professional network through frequent travel to conferences and campus tours.
The Associate Director of College Counseling position is a 12-month position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Work closely with 25-30 seniors and families through completion of college admissions process
* Work closely with 25-30 juniors and families through initial stages of college search
* Work closely with 25-30 sophomores and families in end-of-year course planning
* Write counselor recommendations for each senior in their caseload
* Maintain general communications with students, families, faculty/staff, and college representatives though a variety of outlets (social media, email, website, calendars, etc.)
* Act as lead counselor for one of the grade levels (10-12)
* Lead information initiatives-college tours, athletic recruiting, Career Conversations, etc.
* Coordinate and administer standardized testing as needed
* Supervise test proctors as needed
* Attend weekly staff and faculty meetings and represent the College Counseling team on various school-wide committees
* Support Director with research for presentations and board reports
* Travel to colleges and conferences for ongoing professional development
* Represent the Academy positively to external audiences
* Participate in the life of the school, including weekend duties, Formal Dinners, Class Seminars, and special programs
* Work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the school on committees and projects
* Act as the primary advisor for a group of six to eight students
Other Duties:
* Assume Directorial responsibilities in the absence of the Director of College Counseling

Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree
* Minimum five years' experience in college counseling at an independent school and/or in undergraduate admissions at a college or university
* Expertise with current trends in college admissions
* Excellent listening, counseling, and communication skills
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* Strong organizational and analytical skills
* Interest in working with high school aged students
* Ability to connect with a diverse range of students and parents
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and on a team
* High computer proficiency, including Google Docs, Google Calendar, spreadsheets, and social media
* Familiarity with standardized testing, including SAT, ACT, AP, and TOEFL, a plus
Physical Work Environment:
It is essential to be able to meet the physical demands of sitting for prolonged periods of time at a desk or computer workstation, using repetitive arm, hand and finger movements. Must be able to bend, stoop, push/pull and to grasp objects and or paper and able to visit and move around all campus locations and to travel off campus or to other work sites for appropriate training and/or meetings as required. Salary and Benefits
