Irish Arts CenterDirector of Facility OperationsJob DescriptionBackground:The Irish Arts Center is seeking an innovative and accomplished Director of Facility Operations as it embarks on the most exciting project in its history: the opening of its new facility in the Fall of 2020.The Irish Arts Center (IAC), founded in 1972, is a national and international home for artists and audiences of all backgrounds who share a passion for the evolving arts and culture of contemporary Ireland and Irish America.Based in New York Citys Hells Kitchen, IAC presents, develops, supports, promotes, tours and distributes work from established and emerging artists, providing cultural experiences that are innovative, collaborative, diverse, authentic, emotionally and intellectually transporting, meeting the highest standards of excellence, and celebrating common humanity.IAC also provides community education programs and access to the arts for adults and children of all ages and ethnic, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.Following the successful completion of a $60 million campaign, Irish Arts Center has begun construction of a landmark new permanent home, including a state of the art flexible performance and arts space for the presentation and development of work across a range of disciplines, including music, dance, theatre, film, visual arts, literature and the humanities; classrooms and studio spaces for education programs, development, and collaboration; technology to stream and distribute content on the digital platform; and an avenue-facing lobby caf that will be a hub for hospitality and interaction between artists and audiences. As part of a second phase, IAC will renovate its adjacent existing building to provide a second, intimate performance spacethe historic Irish Arts Center theatreoptimized for the most intimate live music and conversation, recordings, podcasts, master classes and special events, and a beautiful new courtyard entrance on 51st Street at the point where the historic Irish Arts Center and the new building meet.The Position:The Irish Arts Center is seeking a Director of Facility Operations to join its team of highly engaged professionals to bring the new building through the final stage of construction and move-in, and to lead the operations and maintenance of the facilities and systems in its new permanent home.The Director of Facility Operations will serve as a senior member of the management team reporting to the Executive Director, and will work with the colleagues in Production, Programming, Development, Marketing, and Administration to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of its facilities.This includes the 11th Avenue new building, the 52nd Street offices (opening in 2020), and the renovated historic 51st Street building (re-opening in 2021-2022).The Irish Arts Center is committed to providing a welcoming environment for artists and audiences fueled by a shared commitment to excellence, the freedom to innovate, and the warmth of Irish hospitality.In addition to sharing those values, the successful candidate for this position is an experienced, hardworking, hands-on doer, a capable and efficient communicator and negotiator, and a proactive and organized manager.Specific Responsibilities:Working with the capital project management and architect team, codify and define building operations plan, maintenance systems, and budgets, based on project design, engineering, development, planning, and budget.Along with the Production Manager and other colleaguesodevelop and implement a move-in plan and lead the completion of punch list items from Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) to soft and grand openings.oserve on the project management team for the completion of 11th Avenue project and the renovation of the 51st Street home planned for 2021Oversee the maintenance of all building systems, including utilities, custodial/sanitation, security, and technology. Working in collaboration with the Production Manager, ensure timely maintenance and operation of all theatre/back of house equipment and systems.Working in collaboration with the Production Manager and Director of Administration, lead development and execution of a plan that accommodates the physical needs for information technology (IT) requirements for all IAC facilities, and develop plan to satisfy space and storage needs for internal and external (rental/community) functionsIn collaboration with hospitality management (contracted), ensure timely maintenance and operation of all food and beverage equipment and systems.Develop and maintain building inventory systems.Deal with facilities emergencies as they arise.Qualifications:Experience working in a performing or fine arts facility is strongly preferred.Bachelors degree and 8-10 years of experience in facilities operations in positions with increasing management responsibility. Project management experience and, ideally, some hands-on experience preferably in a performing or fine arts environment.Experience with budget development and management.Focused problem solving experience in facility operations and business issues required to support a multifunctional cultural or other nonprofit institution or corporation.Familiarity with information systems and technology.Experience in capital construction project management and some familiarity with compliance with public funding requirements is a plus.Comfort level with balancing multiple ongoing issues and changing circumstances.Bright and diplomatic communicator while working with the highest level of personal integrity.Sound judgment and a sense of humorIAC is committed to creating a diverse environment and is an equal opportunity employer.
