FP&A Financial Analyst, Transportation

The Transportation FP&A team is responsible for all forecasting, budgeting, reporting and commercial analysis for six business lines totaling over $1.1bn in annual revenue, and holds market-leading positions in the maritime, defense and autos industries. The Autos business line sits within Transportation, and has annual revenue of c. $340m, with high profit margins and a track record of strong revenue growth through continued product innovations and investments.
Finance analyst for the Autos business line revenue of c. $340m, with costs of $160m+. IHSMarkit are a leading provider of market share, customer loyalty and sales and production forecasting data to the auto industry, with strong relationships with all the largest auto manufacturers and suppliers globally.
This role will report to the FP&A Associate Director in Autos, who has a deep experience in financial analysis, close business partnering, and coaching others, and a great understanding of the business having worked with the team for 10+ years. The successful candidate will be expected to support a variety of cost analysis activities, under the guidance of the Associate Director and through direct interactions with business expense owners, to help give the business a clear picture of financial performance.
We are looking for someone with a good collaborative ethos, who could work closely with the business to understand the dynamics and drivers of our key third party costs and use this insight to forecast these costs more accurately. Good working relationships with the supply management, accounts payable and accounting teams will also be important.
This role would be well-suited to someone with strong analytical skills, who would be comfortable building excel reports to analyze a variety of costs in order to understand 1) accounting journal corrections required during the close process at month end, 2) underlying driver for variance to forecast / budget, 3) spend by vendor analysis overall and vendor spend linked to key contracts 4) specific expense line analysis as needed.
We are looking for a proactive and organized individual, comfortable both working in the detail of excel/ finance systems, and building relationships with key expense owners and accounting teams. The candidate should possess a drive to learn about the Automotive business, and will be keen to improve upon and support new cost analyses that help the business owners better understand underlying financial performance. Ideally, candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in management accounting and/or FP&A roles.
This full-time role will be based in Englewood, CO, and will report to the FP&A Associate Director for Autos, based in Southfield, MI. This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to develop their skills and become part of a fantastic business team.
Work with the business to develop forward-looking forecasts and budgets.
Ensure FP&A Associate Director receives accurate monthly summary of expenses such as direct costs (data, printing, fulfilment) with concise action-oriented commentary and analysis.
Responsible for various aspects of the month-end close process, including but not limited to proposing corrections for accounting during month end close, accrual entries, etc.
Prepare reports on financials each month to be distributed to the business.
Provide support to insightful financial analysis, interpretations, predictions, support, tools and recommendations to drive decision making across the business to meet organizational objectives. Clearly communicate results and recommendations to ensure clarity and optimal decision making.
Proactive review of costs on a monthly basis; flag early any changes we should be making to the forecast based on actual results.
Assist in monthly analysis of revenue vs forecast with details of under- or over-performance.
Develop and maintain effective relationships across the business to understand the business, the primary drivers, goals, and the needs of partners and internal customers.
Support processes and help identify and provide recommendations to improve efficiency and to improve control environment, including management of cost center structure and assignment.
Strive to partner with business to develop and implement reporting of operating metrics that drive financial performance e.g. profitability of different products in the portfolio.
Key qualities and requirements of successful candidate:
Experience with Essbase, SAP, and Business Objects a plus.
Some background and experience in P&L management, along with knowledge of financial systems and general accounting concepts.
Possess ability to develop great relationships and partnerships with internal customers, peers and effectively manage those relationships.
Good financial acumen and analytics skills with a high degree of proficiency in data mining and forecasting model development.
Strong organization and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and oral communication.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Must be a self-starter with a strong sense of accountability and ownership.
Undergraduate degree in business/ economics/ finance /accounting.
2+ years of experience in management accounting or FP&A.
Some experience in forecasting, budgeting, analyzing actuals vs forecast/ budget.
Some experience developing cost analysis models.
