The Director, Software Engineering is responsible for the support, maintenance, and performance of the Clinical Guidance platform that is used by more than 20,000 Humana associates. This platform is at the core of our ability to achieve best-in-class service in the areas of disease management, utilization management, and closing gaps in member healthcare.. This is a highly visible position that will work closely with a wide range of cross-functional resources from across the company, including executive-level stakeholders. In partnership with them, you will define the near-term/long-term strategy for the platform and plan the appropriate technology investments to support that strategy, all while balancing costs with service delivery needs.. The Director will lead a geographically-dispersed team of 130-150 individuals, comprised of Humana associates and onshore and offshore contractors. This position will be based at our corporate headquarters in Louisville, KY and will require relocation. Relocation assistance will be provided.. Responsibilities. Key Responsibilities. Implement technology roadmap by developing or acquiring business solutions from start to finish.. Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of new and existing IT systems and services.. Drive and enable a multi-disciplinary business solution delivery team delivering high-quality, on-time, and on-budget projects to deliver business capabilities.. Develop an annual strategy to develop and enhance the Clinical Guidance platform.. Provide leadership in the use of best practices in product development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) and design for repeatability, usability, and testability.. Remain current with industry and technology trends in the clinical/healthcare technology space as well as the future direction of associated technologies.. Lead dynamically-created teams on long-term strategic planning assignments. Decisions may affect line of business and market penetration and errors may cause loss of revenue, or substantial expense to business.. Broker right connections within IT; work with the Business Technology Leadership team for issue resolution, and the Solutions (Delivery) Team for new capability creation. Review solution designs, and understand high level cost estimates for projects.. Maintain knowledge of multiple business functions and initiatives within the Healthcare Services business segment to identify where conflicts/synergies exist between technologies and business functions.. Develop and/or evolve solutions development guidelines to improve consistency across products and adherence to established architecture and enterprise standards.. Develop, share, and leverage best practices of development and implementation.. Ensure that the architecture, policies, and capabilities to support data within Healthcare Services complies with enterprise standards.. Candidate Qualifications. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of success leading technology transformation in a healthcare company and will have strong knowledge of healthcare industry regulatory issues (i.e. HIPAA, EMR, clinical care guidelines, etc.). He/she will possess exceptional consulting skills, along with demonstrated thought leadership. This person will also hold at least a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field and will have extensive experience leading multi-level, geographically dispersed teams of technology professionals.. In addition, the following professional qualifications and personal attributes are sought:. Proven success in leading large-scale, cross-functional project/delivery teams. Experience in DEV/SEC/OPS and managing and delivering Java, .net, and open source solutions. Expertise with Pivotal Cloud Foundry or similar platforms. Experience in Clinical Technologies such as Utilization Management, Case Management. An understanding of Healthcare Services processes and a strong grasp of existing and emerging technologies focused on that area. Proven expertise in problem resolution, including the data and analytics skills to enable common linkages to be identified and connected. Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the polish, poise, and executive presence that will ensure effective interaction with senior and executive level audiences. Highly collaborative mindset and excellent relationship-building skills. Current or recent experience in a highly matrixed company, with proven ability to influence leaders and key stakeholders in such an environment. Proven success in expanding and elevating the capabilities and performance of their team and preparing direct reports for expanded responsibilities.
