We are in the forefront of the FAA's NextGen Airspace Modernization Programs and international Air Traffic Control Systems initiatives. This work includes modernizing from a ground-based system of air traffic control to a satellite-based system of air traffic management, improving communications between pilots and air traffic controllers enabling more efficient operations and reducing communications errors and radio congestion, and developing leading-edge concepts in all dimensions of air traffic control.
The successful candidate will work on the APD (Aireon Processing & Distribution) Program which is the space-based extension of ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast). ADSB is a surveillance technology in which an aircraft determines its position via satellite navigation and periodically broadcasts it, enabling it to be tracked. The working environment is challenging, dynamic and fast-paced. This position offers hands-on leadership experience in design, implementation, and maintenance of the APD infrastructure; includes management and monitoring of all installed systems and system management tools.
Responsibilities: Review and analyze customer functional and performancerequirements. Develop CONOPS basedon these requirements. Develop functional and physical system architectures basedupon high-level requirements. Decomposesystem-level requirements and develop subsystem specifications. Maintain these requirements throughoutthe product life cycle. Develop and maintain interface control documents at thesystem and subsystem level. Conductperformance analyses of systems and subsystems. Collect and analyze data to evaluate performance and anomalies. Conductformal trade studies to define the optimal design approach. Support theintegration, testing, and fielding of these systems. Performduties of an Engineering Project Manager which include: response for proposals, projectplanning, schedule development, project tracking (cost & schedule),and reporting to management. Prepare andpresent technical briefings for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications: Bachelors in Engineering related field with 4+ yearsexperience in systems engineering. Experience developing system and subsystem requirements forreal-time hardware and software-based systems. Experience designing, developing and implementing one or moreof the following: RF communicationssystems, data communications systems, network design, or air trafficcontrol systems. Hands-on experience with system development and engineeringprocesses defined in IEEE-15288. Work experience leading engineering projects achievingdefined goals and objectives within cost and schedule constraints. Work experience with Microsoft Office applications, MSProject, Visio, requirements management tools, and UML tools. Experience using any of the following to support dataanalysis and forensic investigations: C/C++, Python, Perl, MATLAB, etc.
Preferred Qualifications: Masters in engineering related field with 2 yearsexperience in systems engineering. Direct experience with ADS-B surveillance systems. Working knowledge of air traffic control systems and theiroperation. Understanding the aspects of various industry qualification standards such as DO-178 and DO-278. Practical knowledge of DOORS requirements management tool.
