Following the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the overall financial planning and financial operations of the hospital while ensuring compliance with the hospitals mission, values, strategic direction, and applicable laws and regulations.
The CFO successfully adds real value to the organization by providing dependable strategic leadership, a consistent financial perspective, and active contribution to critical management decisions. This person will have overall accountability in delivering exceptional financial performance, and shall function as the chief financial planner, chief allocator of capital, chief of capital structure and debt management, chief accounting officer, chief credit officer, and chief defender of the hospitals financial integrity.
S/he appraises the organization's financial position and issues periodic financial and operating reports; directs the hospital's financial planning, revenue cycle, payroll, and accounting practices; oversees and directs treasury, budgeting, audit, tax and purchasing, The CFO develops and implements policies and procedures to include safeguarding of assets and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles; ensures proper accountability and reporting to federal and state agencies and all matters pertinent to a fiscally responsible flow of operations. S/he assures the implementation and adherence to system-wide financial policies and procedures.
The CFO is responsible for positive relationships and effective communications with lending institutions, the financial community, medical staff, employees, volunteers, community representatives and board members as appropriate.Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, business or a related discipline required
- Advanced degree in Business Administration or Finance or professional certification such as CPA or CFA
- Minimum eight years of progressive career experience in Hospital or health system Finance/Accounting. Hospital CFO experience required.
- Requires managerial experience and demonstrated understanding and experience with hospital financial reporting, revenue cycle management, accounting, budgeting, accounts payable, treasury, audit, tax, payroll, materials management, and case management.
- Proven experience with building, managing and motivating a professional accounting and finance staff
- Expertise in healthcare revenue cycle management

Skills and Knowledge
- Overall accountability and demonstrated track record in delivering exceptional financial performance in a hospital and employed physician venues.
- Proven experience in collaborating with C-Suite team and other organization leaders to drive financial performance
- Administrative responsibility for patient accounting, registration and accounts receivable management, materials management and case management
- Chief accounting officer responsible for accounting and finance departments
- Coordinates the hospitals budget preparation, approval and monitoring processes, and systems
- Help to present and interpret data effectively to members of senior management and the Board of Directors
- Identifies and meets with all appropriate third-party payors (insurance and managed care companies) and develops working relationships with them
- Ensures that SJRMC has integrated financial management systems and controls responsive to organizational needs

- Participates in the development of the facilitys strategic plan and short and long-term objectives which will ensure the continued growth of the facility and the provision of necessary services to the community; implementing plans and programs as approved by the governing board.
- Operations Management: Collects and analyzes data from internal and external sources regarding current way of doing business, finance, accounting and related processes. Conducts needs analysis, identifies and prioritizes needs, applies good problem solving skills. Identifies alternate processes and potential solutions and acts to implement changes to improve financial operations.
