Description of Job
Current vacancies: Full time positions in Buena Vista, Canon City, Denver, Pueblo and Sterling; and Part-time position in Trinidad; however we are accepting applications for all locations. The eligibility list created from this posting will be used to fill current and future vacancies through out the state (Crowley, Buena Vista, Canon City, Delta, Denver, Limon, Pueblo, Rifle, Sterling and Trinidad). We are currently offering incentive pay for positions in Sterling and Limon (additional $200.00 per month) and housing pay for positions in Buena Vista (additional $300.00 per month).
This position provides routine and emergency dental care, assessment, diagnosis and treatment to offenders incarcerated in the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC). This position is responsible for but not limited to the following:
+ Provide professional diagnosis and treatment of oral pathology for offenders in both routine and emergency settings;
+ Provide dental care that includes, but is not limited to, diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, endodontal, oral surgery, and prosthetic services;
+ Apply agency and professional treatment standards to develop individual patient treatment plans;
+ Diagnose and treat dental disease of offenders or refer offenders to specialist for treatment;
+ This position may be required to participate in restraining an offender primarily for medical reasons;
+ Communicate with outside providers and internal peers to ensure continuity of care;
+ Collaborate with other health care professionals, clinical services staff regarding offender health issue/policies, transfers, classifications and medical legal concerns;
+ Participate in various decision making committees to resolve system issues;
+ Assist in developing policies, protocols, standards or guidelines;
+ Maintain offenders health records to include dental holds, special diets and work restrictions;
+ Respond to offender grievances;
+ Participate in the daily dental clinic operations to include tool control, chemical control, infection control practices, bio hazardous waste, hazardous materials and radiation control exposure control regulations;
+ Plan workloads and schedules, as well as those of any subordinates;
+ Maintain agency compliance with relevant statutes and professional standards in dentistry;
+ Provide input to supervisors on dental unit policies and procedures, dental treatment standards, and dental unit budgetary and staffing needs;
+ Provides clinical guidance and direction, consultation and education relative to dental assistants' performance;
+ Provide supervision of clinical tasks and procedures as required under the Dental Practice Law;
+ Provide daily guidance to the dental care staff for kite log entry and offender appointment scheduling to achieve maximum efficiency in providing dental treatment;
+ Perform dental patient education related to preventative care and self care including appropriate hygiene, post dental procedure care, signs and symptoms of dental and periodontal disease and signs and symptoms of the need for immediate health dental care.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Licensure: Applicant must possess a current, valid dentist license issued by the Colorado Dental Board.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience providing dental services to any of the following populations: indigent, under-served, community based and institutional;
+ Experience providing dental services as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Required Competencies:
+ Ability to provide dental care to offenders incarcerated in a correctional facility;
+ Advanced knowledge and a thorough understanding of Dental standards and guidelines;
+ Commitment to patient care that is team-oriented;
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
+ Ability to read and comprehend the English language;
+ Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing;
+ Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across programs, facilities and with external stakeholders;

The Assessment Process: Colorado Revised Statutes require that state employees are hired and promoted through a comparative analysis. The comparative analysis for this position will include a review of your application material and your responses to any supplemental questions. Applications and responses will be reviewed by a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to assess and rank applicants in order to cut to a top group for additional assessment; or to establish an eligible list for referral to the hiring manager and final consideration.

Conditions of Employment
+ All job offers are contingent upon a successful medical screening by a healthcare professional, certifying candidate's ability to perform the essential functions of the position, completed at the applicant's own expense. + Must be 21 years of age;
+ Possess a valid State of Colorado Driver's License;
+ Possess a High School Diploma or GED;
+ Have NO felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609. The CDOC shall not hire nor promote anyone who may have contact with an offender who has engaged in sexual abuse which includes acts, activity, and sexual behavior, in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents;
+ Successfully complete the Department of Corrections Basic Training upon hire, initial drug screening, and random drug screening throughout employment;
+ Possess the physical ability to successfully complete PPCT (Pressure Point Control Tactics);
+ Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist;
+ Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down;
+ Use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows;
+ Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows;
+ Swing a baton in a striking technique;
+ Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic;
+ Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions;
+ Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) during Basic Training and may be exposed while on assignment;
+ Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security
+ Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury;
+ Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently;
+ Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations;
+ Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, utilizing tactfulness and a congenial, personable manner;
+ Work with people of the opposite sex, diverse racial ethnic groups, mentally ill and emotionally disturbed offenders;
+ Communicate by talking, listening and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, assignments;
+ Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings;
+ Willing and able to travel;
+ Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyards (nights) which includes a rotating shift schedule;
+ TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire;
+ Successful completion of a background investigation is required. Should applicant's background reveal criminal charges, it shall be the responsibility of the applicant to provide the Department of Corrections with written/official disposition of any charges;
+ The CDOC is committed to a drug and alcohol free work environment. Our employees are expected to comply with all state and federal laws. A drug test will be administered to all new employees; employees must successfully pass. Random drug screening will occur throughout employment.
Appeal Rights
