**Description:** **Job Profile Summary** Directs and evaluates the activities of the department employees and provides management, coaching, guidance, and on-the-job training and retraining, as necessary, to ensure operational efficiency, achievement of set targets, and adherence to policies and procedures. Develops and implements quality management protocols. Provides guidelines for proper direction and motivation to all personnel under his/her jurisdiction. **Job Responsibilities:** * Establishes quality improvement, fiscal productivity and patient satisfaction goals and objects in conjunction with upper management. * Organizes the functions of the departments through the appropriate assignment of responsibilities, delegation of authority, and overall direction of workflow processes. * Directs and evaluates the activities of the department employees and provides management, coaching, guidance, and on-the-job training and retraining, as necessary, to ensure operational efficiency, achievement of set targets, and adherence to policies and procedures. * Communicates and collaborates with administration, medical staff, employees and other departments to coordinate efforts, meet special needs and address problems of concerns. * Monitors employee and department performance to ensure adherence to policies and procedures, time line and regulatory requirements. * Reviews all department policies and procedures and revises as needed. * Develops, implements and evaluates new policies and procedures as needed. * Completes and conducts performance evaluations for all staff under their direct supervision after three months employment and annually; submits completed evaluations to Human Resources department by the due date. * Reviews and approves all performance evaluations completed and conducted by other department supervisors or managers. * Conducts monthly department meetings and documents employee attendance using appropriate format and covers required topics. * Ensures that department employees attend all mandatory and department in-services. * Counsels employees as needed regarding job performance or related concerns. * Develops and monitors work improvement programs as needed to correct poor job performance. * Delegates responsibilities when appropriate to provide job growth and learning opportunities. Evaluates existing systems and processes, initiates changes and improvements and makes suggestions to upper management. * Conducts regular nurse manager meetings for the purpose of staffing goal setting and performance review. * Attends all administrative meetings. Sets performance goals and works collaboratively to set meaningful objectives. * Provides suggestions and necessary resources for the facilitation of goal achievement. * Implements systems to track performance against goals and holds regular meetings to disc uss progress. * Maintains an objective view to the conflicts of others and allows for brainstorming of positive alternatives. * Consistently operates with integrity, honesty and keeps commitments. * Supportive of others and treats others with dignity, respect and fairness. * Utilizes chain of command as needed. Provides final approval of expenses including payroll. * Works with team to investigate causes of grievances, complaints made by patients and personnel. * Remains calm and assists staff to function effectively during stressful situations. * Assists in the process which ensures that patient care is delivered in accordance with established, State, Federal and Joint Commission guidelines, standards, regulations, and ethics. * Ensure staff compliance in the completion of initial an annual competencies. * Builds a successful management team by developing and coaching others and by being a positive role model. * Other duties as assigned. **Education:** * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. * BSN required. * Master preferred. **Certifications** : * Florida Registered Professional Nurse License (RN). * Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA) required. * Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) certification preferred. **Complexity of Work:** * All employees are expected to meet the standards of performance outlined in the Organizational-Wide Competencies listed below as applied to the position: World Class Service Orientation: Includes attitude, behavior, interpersonal skills, and problem solving that enable an employee to respond to internal and external customer needs and expectations in a positive manner. * Has verbal knowledge of Dr. Lower's Credo: A patient is the most important person in this organization in person or by mail. It is our job to satisfy him. * Adaptability: Includes teamwork and flexibility needed to fulfill job responsibilities including adapting to changes in work environment and accepting supervisory feedback. * Efficiency and Effectiveness: Includes adherence to all relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines affecting the work environment, including maintenance of required competencies and communication skills. * Essential Job Requirements: Includes adherence to all relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines affecting the work environment, including maintenance of required competencies and communication skills. * Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable): Include overall accountability for assigned work group relative to operational goals, personnel requirements and budgetary constraints. **Work Experience:** * Five years recent nursing clinical practice to include at least two years' experience healthcare management required. * Cognizant of the physical and general characteristics of the various age related groups. * Clinical skills commensurate with allowed scope of responsibility. Ability to work independently, demonstrates neatness, organizational skills and deadline awareness. * Knowledge of current nursing management theory and practices. * Demonstrates knowledge of infection control practices. * Knowledge of Florida Nurse Practice Act, Joint Commission requirements. * Knowledge of budget preparation and management principles. * Knowledge of quality improvement practices. **Physical Requirements:** * Essential Duties: This position requires knowledge of all aspects of patient care services work. * Effective skills in one-to-one, small group, and large group communication; conceptual thinking; negotiation; political process marketing and public relations/budgeting and forecasting; project management; personnel management; materials management; technical writing; coaching; and planning. * Ability to assume responsibility and exercise authority. Verbal and written communication skills to communicate with staff, physicians, peers, superiors, vendors, patients and their families. * Numerical ability is required. * Able to handle multiples tasks using time management principles to meet goals and deadlines. Ability to retrieve, communicate and present data and information verbally and in writing essential. * The ability to maintain confidentiality of information is essential. Ability to coach and counsel staff to enable them to increase their personal and professional development is required. Ability to develop and implement quality management protocols is required. * Physical Duties: This position requires frequent walking, sitting and standing, etc. Frequent talking and listening when given instructions and explanations. Frequent use of the phone and computer. * Working conditions: The person in this position spends most of the time indoors in air-conditioned areas. * Occasional trips are required to attend meetings at satellites. * Potential for exposure to blood and blood borne pathogens is minimal while performing managerial duties. **Personal Protective Equipment:** * Clinical exposure to patients may require the use of personal protective equipment. * This position requires minimal exposure to infectious wastes such as blood and body fluids in the managerial role. * Occasional use of personal protective equipment may be necessary.
