Overall Job Objective Purpose of this position is to Performs a variety of urban parks maintenance and property derived tasks as assigned by Parks Managers and field staff. Performs other duties as required. Position is for the duration of the summer. Duties & Responsibilities Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of properties and parks. May include: Waste and litter removal; Turf maintenance; Hardscape cleaning and maintenance; Vandalism repair/removal; Horticulture maintenance; Irrigation repair and maintenance; Minor repair of buildings and structures. Responsible for assisting, organizing and supporting rentals and/or Special events. May include: Event set up/take down; Preparing areas for rentals/events; Performing post rental inspections and clean up; Monitoring Special Events of all levels. Safely operates and perform preventative maintenance on all city vehicles and equipment. Maintains detailed records of work performed Qualifications Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older. Ability to perform a wide range of physical and manual tasks in and outdoor environment under a variety of weather conditions. Must be able to work entire summer; hours are flexible and include weekends and evenings. Ability to evaluate conditions in assigned area and make judgments related to safety. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Effective interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution skills. Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history. Ability to keep accurate records, organize information, supplies and equipment, and follow established procedures. Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools. Ability to operate riding mowers, tractors, truck and trailers, and other landscape equipment. Ability to provide information and instruction to individuals and groups. Ability to work alone under general supervision. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS - in addition to the required minimum qualifications: Available to work special events on a variety of days and times. Experience operating tractors, trailers or other large equipment Experience with GIS software and applications. Previous experience in landscape construction and maintenance. Previous experience working with the installation and maintenance of plant materials. Training and/or experience in mapping, aerial photo interpretation and map reading. Supplemental Information This position with the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation department requires a good driving record and no more than 8 points or 3 moving convictions or a suspended or revoked license in the past two years. WORKING CONDITIONS- Required Physical and Mental Effort, and Environmental Conditions Physical Demands: Ability to perform a wide range of strenuous physical and manual tasks in an outdoor environment. Physical ability to stand, walk, and kneel. Able to use a variety of long handled, manual, and power tools; and to operate equipment while working in and around moving traffic. Upper body strength to lift up to 40 pounds on a daily basis and over 75 pounds on an occasional basis. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively in person. Work Environment: Frequently works outside with an exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Works in a setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises. Ability to stand, crawl, crouch, climb, stoop and kneel in on a regular basis.
