JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the oversight of kitchen operations to ensure that students are served nutritious and attractive meals in a clean and caring atmosphere. Develops kitchen staff and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assumes the role of the working-manager. In addition to managerial responsibilities, participates in preparation, serving, cashiering and sanitation tasks. 2. Responsible for following department revenue handling procedures. 3. Manages labor budget and delegates assignments to ensure that all work is completed on time and kitchen operation is efficient. 4. Submits to the central office all food and non-food orders, payroll, attendance, production sheets, inventory, maintenance and equipment requests in a timely manner and on the correct form. 5. Meets health department sanitation standards in all areas. 6. Ensures that employees follow safety policies and practices consistently. Ensures employee injury procedures are followed. 7. Follows all HACCP Plan mandates including completing checklists and following standard operating procedures. 8. Advertises and successfully holds promotions to increase participation of students at breakfast and lunch. 9. Manages personnel issues in a timely and professional manner and notifies supervisor of problems immediately. 10. Stays current with all district and department communication including voicemail, email, and information reviewed at scheduled meetings. Shares all information with kitchen staff in a timely manner. 11. Responsible for training and development of kitchen staff including assistant kitchen manager. 12. Participates in all department meetings, training, and development. 13. Monitors department key performance indicators and profit and loss statements to ensure profitability. 13. Carries out all tasks and directives as given by supervisor. 14. Other tasks as assigned. EXPERIENCE: 1-2 years of food service management experience preferred. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School Diploma or GED Certificate desired. 2. Previous management skills and physical ability (including lifting up to 45 pounds) to perform the responsibilities of the job preferred. 3. Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. 4. Experience with use of software programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel preferred. 5. Applicants must be proficient in the English language with the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
