The primary responsibility of a Business Wire Newsroom Editor is to accurately and efficiently prepare and transmit news releases over Business Wire's circuits. Work as a team member within your Business Wire office performing any and all functions necessary for the successful operation of the office as determined by local or regional manager.

The hours for this position are Sunday - Thursday, 2:30 pm - 11 pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Format, edit and proofread press releases on a computer quickly and accurately
* Code each release based on a client's request for distribution, suggest additional or alternative circuits that may be beneficial to the client and talk to them about conflicting distribution instructions
* Contact clients regarding any problems that could lead to errors (grammar or punctuation mistakes, typos, missing contact info, etc.)
* Recognize the authenticity of press releases and escalate potentially problematic copy to the attention of a supervisor or manager
* Display good judgment in helping to resolve issues
* Monitor incoming releases and ensure that all copy is accounted for and handled in a timely fashion
* Monitor copy online to ensure successful transmission
* Maintain and update client fax and email lists
* Assist other Business Wire offices with overflow of releases as necessary
* Perform opening/closing duties as necessary
* Maintain client account notes
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Business Wire products, services, procedures and policies
* Assist with incoming phone calls, including fielding client questions regarding distribution of news releases, and answering other general questions
* Help guide clients through the process of sending releases to Business Wire, including how to use Business Wire Connect
* Provide membership material and set up new accounts when the situation is approved and appropriate
* Assist sales and other departments as necessary
* Communicate all technical issues to the Help Group or Web Support in a timely and detailed fashion
* Authorize credit card funds for clients who need to pay for their releases via credit card
* Run and submit the daily distribution report to the billing department by set deadline
* Keep newsroom orderly and organized; rotate files by moving older releases to storage or shredding, based on current BW retention policy
* In addition to the above, there may be office-specific duties assigned by the Newsroom Supervisor or local or regional Manager

Qualifications Required for this Position

* Bachelor's degree ? Excellent communication & customer service skills
* Ability to work effectively with a variety of people in a team environment
* Ability to multitask, prioritize workflow, and follow projects through to completion under tight deadlines
* Strong attention to detail
* Ability to exercise good judgment
* Basic technical skills and computer literacy, including proficiency in standard business applications (i.e., MS Word and Excel; Web, etc.)
* Must demonstrate reliability through good attendance and punctuality
* Courteous and professional phone manner
* Professional appearance and demeanor
* Must be flexible with schedule, as needed
