Summary: Conducts a range of trade specific inspections on elevators, escalators, mechanized walkways, and / or other lift machinery, verifying that the operation, construction, retrofit, or repair work in the field is performed in accordance with applicable code requirements, drawings, plans, specifications and contract documents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Performs trade specific code and/ or Quality Control inspections on various phases/ aspects of elevator/ lift equipment, including installation, retrofit, repairs, periodic re-inspection, or related projects.
Detect possible defects and faults in equipment installations or operation and recommend or stipulate appropriate remedial measures.
Accurately reads, interprets, and comprehends equipment operation and installation plans and instructions.
Rides on top of, and crawls below elevator cars to perform shaft way and equipment operation inspections.
Utilizes standard testing devices and methods to ensure equipment operation meets established requirements, and to detect possible defects in equipment or installations.
Objectively interprets and consistently applies code requirements and related standards in accordance with state, local, and national regulations and department policies.
Effectively coordinates work schedule with elevator service companies/ technicians to ensure maximum operational efficiency.
Works cooperatively with property managers, service companies, and the general public.
Conducts all work operations in accordance with established safety practices, ensuring all work is completed without hazard to self or others.

Associates or Bachelor s Degree in an engineering or construction discipline, with five or more years of experience performing elevator/ lift equipment inspections and/ or repairs; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
Possession and maintenance of current QEI Inspector license, and other required certifications required.
Demonstrated knowledge of the following:
The methods and practices involved in installing, repairing and maintaining a variety of electric and hydraulic elevators, escalators and moving walks
Fundamental mechanical and electrical principles as they apply to elevators and similar controls
Stages of construction when possible violations and defects may most easily be observed and corrected
Application of the American National Standard Safety Code for Elevators, Dumbwaiters, Escalators and Moving Walks as referenced and amended in the Construction Code, as well as A17.2 Inspectors Manual.
Demonstrated ability to use graphic instructions such as blueprints, schematic drawings and layouts, and comprehend and make inferences from written materials and code documents.
Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, document and database software (MS Office, Access, etc.). Knowledge and use of field Work Order Management systems and programs required.
An employee in this position typically works in an industrial field environment, with daily exposure to operating machinery. Office time is limited.
While performing the duties of this Job, the incumbent is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; lift/ reach above shoulder level with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl while regularly working in small or restricted spaces; and speak and hear clearly. The incumbent frequently ascends and descend ladders or stairs and works at heights greater than 10 feet, and is frequently required to lift up to 20 pounds. The vision requirements include: ability to adjust focus, distance vision and close vision. Travel is requirement is up to 50%, dependent on assignment location and duration.
