The diversity of our operations has recently created an opportunity for a new Senior Counsel role in our New York City offices. Brooks Brothers has an opening for an employment lawyer that also has knowledge of privacy laws. This position will report to the General Counsel and Secretary.
The role will handle legal matters primarily related to human resources, employment and ethics compliance, and employee relations. In this role, you will work closely with Human Resources and our business teams to provide day-to-day proactive employment law advice and counsel for Brooks Brothers.
* Provide preventive, proactive legal advice on a broad range of employment practice topics, including discrimination, harassment, wrongful discharge, performance management, employee discipline and separations, workplace investigations, severance programs, leaves of absence and accommodations, recruiting, hiring, benefits, wage and hour, compensation, unemployment and workers' compensation, and immigration matters. * Working with the Company's HR department to develop and maintain human resources policies, procedures, and other documentation related to human resources and workforce management. * Prepare training materials and conduct training sessions regarding employment best practices. * Keep abreast of legal decisions, statutory changes and other developments, and advise Company on same. * Assist with various complex and/or sensitive projects as assigned and support the company on privacy and data security matters. * Undergraduate and J.D. degrees from recognized institutions. Member in good standing in at least one State Bar, preferably New York. * Minimum 4-6 years of experience in the areas of employment law, with sufficient experience to handle role responsibilities with a minimum of supervision. * Experience with advising on privacy laws also preferred.
* Be an effective communicator with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with clients, coworkers, and colleagues; * Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail and ability to roll-up-sleeves and execute; * Be able to weigh risks against operational needs to develop reasoned recommendations, including risk mitigation strategies, and provide sound legal advice; * Possess strong organizational and project management skills and the ability to balance competing demands and work autonomously; and * Have practical judgment, a high level of professional integrity, self-motivated and ability to maintain confidentiality.
