Responsibilities

NOTE: This position may be performed remotely within AR, CO, NM, OK, TX, or WY, provided that location provides for cost effective and time efficient travel within these six states.

Responsible for directing a regional team of Individual Giving Directors and Advisors to support assigned region with securing major gifts, family foundation grants and individual giving engagements. Responsible for leading the coordinated, collaborative regional Mission Advancement Leadership Team to maximize integrated strategy and results for the region. Responsible for partnering to achieve an average $20 million annually. Responsible for the strategic planning, cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of individual donors (gift level of $1 million or more) who make up the portfolios of assigned Region Executive Vice President(s), as well as other select donors and potential donors of the highest levels. Responsible for cultivating and securing significant numbers of seven-figure gifts for both unrestricted and restricted purposes.

  • Develop and direct strategic vision for Individual Major Giving for assigned region including pipeline development. Meet or exceed goal of annual revenue of $20 million or more (average for FY17-18). Serve as an active, present and engaged member of assigned region(s) senior management/leadership team to implement vision through direct collaboration with EVP.

  • Manage a team which includes Individual Director and Advisor(s) through on-site visits, travelling 25% of the time. Coach and mentor direct reports toward successful collaborative solicitations of six and seven figure unrestricted and restricted gifts from individuals, securing up to $5M annually. Serve as the leader for the region’s Mission Advancement Leadership Team.

  • Complete 40 face-to-face donor and prospective donor visits each fiscal year in order to develop and manage an individual portfolio of approximately 20 individual donors across the assigned region with the ability to give $1 million or more. Develop, manage, and maintain the portfolios for assigned region EVP(s) and collaborate with SVPs. Drive strategy and ensure growth of donor relationships within portfolio.

  • Integrate subject matter expertise into existing trainings, strategy sessions, consulting services, and market meetings to equip other market leaders with the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to identify and cultivate a major giving culture within the region. Serve as Major Giving/Individual Giving expert to assigned Region and at National level training as requested.

  • Guide and inspire direct reports to leverage customized strategic cultivation events and other strategies in priority markets to cultivate donor relationships and solicit major gifts that are bundled and blended to $100 thousand or more.

  • Attend and support region market activities and social events, Health Strategies events, and other hallmark events that drive the AHA’s overall unrestricted revenue campaign.

  • Lead by example in the maintenance of accurate and timely records of all activities in donor database (BBCRM). Report activity, trends, progress and results to SVP Mission Advancement, association-wide Donor Relations team, or other various internal audiences on a monthly basis

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required

  • Minimum of ten (10) years overall experience in fundraising or sales

  • Minimum of six (8) years of relevant experience in fundraising or sales with at least one year focused on major gifts or large accounts, preferably supporting large scale research on health and/or community issues

  • Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience in identifying and developing major giving and/or engagement opportunities that align with organizational mission, goals and strategies at national and local levels.

  • Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience with all areas of cultivation, solicitation and closing sales or fundraising

  • Minimum of four (4) years demonstrated collaborative skills with all levels of staff, prospects, volunteers and donors

  • Minimum of four (4) years demonstrated verbal and written communication skills

  • Minimum of four (4) years previous experience working with complex donors or clients representing $100k+ in revenue or philanthropy with proven fundraising or sales results at the six- and seven-figure level

  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience using donor relationship management software, such as BBCRM, Blackbaud, Dynamics and/or Raiser’s Edge

  • Ability to travel up to 50% local and overnight stay
