The SEC & Legal Entity Reporting team prepares external quarterly and annual financial reports for American Express Company and certain US GAAP subsidiaries. In particular we prepare the Company's SEC filings, including the Form 10-Q, Form 10-K, Form 11-K, Pillar 3 and Guide 3 and play an active role ensuring the accuracy of all financial information distributed in connection with the Company's quarterly earnings release. We perform independent processes to prepare, review and analyze financial information with a key focus on control and compliance. We work extensively with our own financial controllers, subject matter experts, consolidations team, General Counsel's Office and external auditors. Responsibilities Include:

* Preparation of the Company's US GAAP financial statements, including MD&A

* Preparation of the Company's annual Retirement Plan and Retirement Savings Plan financial statements

* Preparation of the Company's Basel 3 Pillar 3 documents

* Preparation of the Company's Guide 3 disclosures

* Coordination with internal subject matter experts throughout the reporting cycle

* Ensure compliance with all internal controls and required documentation

* Liaise with internal and external auditors

* Support various projects aimed at automation, process improvement and efficiency

* Various other reporting and projects as needed


* Strong understanding/experience in US GAAP accounting and reporting

* 5-7 years professional experience in accounting - prior SEC reporting and/or public accounting experience preferred

* Some banking regulatory experience preferred, including Basel 3

* Retirement plan reporting experience a plus

* Demonstrates strong analytical skills

* Strong technical/system skills, experience with Oracle Essbase/HFR a plus

* Proficient with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)

* Experience with Wdesk a plus

* Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills

* Must be self-motivated and proactive

* Must be able to multi-task and meet strict deadlines

* Must be able to digest and become an SME on various complex issues

* Must be able to think \"outside-the-box\"

* Undergraduate in accounting/finance, CPA a plus
