The Director of Operations (Plant Manager) in Winona, MN directs and coordinates all activities related to the scheduling, fabrication, finishing & assembly of finished goods. The role will be responsible to coordinate the continuous improvement of activities; develop employees by expanding their skills & knowledge, enhancing a culture of disciplined execution & accuracy of information. Whey will also ensure plant capacity meets or exceeds sales forecast. The Director of Operations will be responsible for direct reports of four Area Managers, schedulers, several supervisors and an hourly staff of over 300 employees and develop future leaders within each functional area.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Lead all associates to understand, improve & execute plant fundamentals, (Safety & Environmental compliance, 5S, Quality, Delivery, Maintenance, Productivity & cost, (Units / op hr & budget)
Manage the continuous improvement process, with all employees to increase throughout & capacity, reduce lead time and improve quality
Utilize visual management tools, and coach all associates to remove constraints, (Plan, Do, Check, Act) in a focused factory environment
Participate in the Plant Leadership, (Director of Operations, Director of Assembly, Director of Engineering & Director of Human Resources) to direct a transformation of culture focused on customer service, continuous improvement & cost reductions
Identify gaps between the plant and current production capacity and develop plans with peers to have the right capacity in place to meet the plan
Evaluate performance of all team members and assess organizational fit, identify opportunities for improvement & ensure the development of future leaders
Review process audits & create plans to mitigate gaps. Participate in Corporate cross functional teams for performance review, strategy, plant compliance & process improvement
Ensure that there is a process in place to manage the parameters, data and integrity of information in information systems
Required Experience and Knowledge:
6 to 8 years plus the education listed below
Able to identify, explain and remove constraints.
Process oriented with engineering and or fabrication experience preferred
Lean or Six Sigma experience required
Able to coach and develop a high performance team
Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Operations or Managment or Equivalent required
