Eastern State Hospital, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state of the art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission. ESH invites applications for the position of the Primary Care Physician. This position serves as the lead physician for primary care services, provides supervision of medical consultation services, oversees the provision of primary medical care in the facility to include the Health Services Clinic for treatment of patients and employee injuries and referrals, as well as the Admitting Physician for the Admission Suite. Collaborates with the Hospital Medical Director and program staff regarding clinical and administrative program needs. Ensures medical record compliance with regard to state, federal regulations, TJC and CMS standards and other accrediting bodies or agencies. Ensures medical record documentation compliance rate of 100% for monthly reviews and appropriate completion of documentation to support reimbursement activities for medical coding and billing practices. Serves as an on-call physician when scheduled and as needed.

Current, Virginia license to practice Medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Current DEA registration.
Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy and completion of an accredited / approved Internal Medicine or Family Medicine residency program.
Examine, evaluate, diagnose and treat psychiatric and mental illnesses.
Skilled in documenting in the medical record and articulating and interacting with patients and others regarding clinical / administrative concerns or issues.
Serve as an on-call physician when scheduled and as needed.
Board Certification in Internal Medicine preferred.
Experience with an inpatient population preferred.
