PREREQUISITES:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent (G.E.D.) preferred.

  • Recent experience working in an infusion or oncology center required.

  • Must be familiar with current medications and J codes in an oncology setting.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Demonstrates ability to communicate in writing and verbally in the English language in an effective manner. Effective communication includes ability to spell accurately and write legibly.

  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrates basic skills in keyboarding (45 wpm) and using a personal computer in the Windows 2007 environment and using a mouse.

  • Recent experience working in an infusion or oncology center required.

  • Must be familiar with current medications and J codes in an oncology setting.

  • Experience with current Oncology Infusion Medications and J Codes recommended.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of medical terminology.

  • Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills with a diverse population.

  • Able to carry out assignments independently and exercise good independent judgment.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Demonstrates ability to decipher hand written notes.

  • Demonstrates ability to handle telephone calls or personal interactions with tact, poise, courtesy and respect.

    B. Unique Job Functions:

  • Has knowledge of and is able to schedule/register all types of oncology infusion treatments. Schedules appropriately utilizing all electronic and paper scheduling guidelines. Asks patients and/or scheduling physician office staff all questions pertinent to the treatment and patient safety, and documents in appropriate locations.

  • Ensures that signed orders and authorizations are received; inquiring at the time of scheduling whether they will be arriving with the patient or will be faxed by the office.

  • Interview patients to verify their identity and match them to an existing patient history, if appropriate.

  • Determine accurate demographic and insurance/third party coverage information.

  • Chooses appropriate insurance plan and initiates steps to meet requirements, i.e.pre-authorization, authorization or referral for services.

  • Monitors all oncology infusion schedules and/or orders on a daily basis to determine patients who have not been pre-registered for or scheduled for services within the next 7 days.

  • Contacts the Financial Advocate for patients who need assistance with their account, need price quotes or wish to make payment arrangements.

  • Assists patients by providing directions, answering questions and acting as liaison with other departments.

  • Actively participates in all workflow design or process improvement work groups, as assigned by manager or lead.

  • Notify manager and lead when new insurance regulations are identified so that the all admitting, health information management and patient account staff can be educated about the new requirements.

  • Knows sources of reference for customer needs, i.e.: notary, patient rep requirements, etc.

  • Utilize all manuals, contacts and information available within the Patient Access/Registration office as a resource for quality and accurate information as it relates to specific payer group.

  • Responsible to perform a daily audit of all registrations performed to verify accuracy.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all accessible patient financial or medical records information.

  • Demonstrates the awareness of the importance of cost containment for the department. Provide suggestions regarding process or quality improvement opportunities to department manager.

  • Other duties as assigned to facilitate accurate, timely patient account management.
