UW Medicine (UWM) Finance has an outstanding opportunity for a Shared Services Budget & Planning Manager. This individual will plan, coordinate, and produce the long-range plans and budgets for the UWM Shared Services functions, including but not limited to UWM Health System (Entity 70 or Corporate) and UWM IT Services. In addition, this position has primary accountability for developing and maintaining core, standardized presentation materials for disseminating the long-range plans and budgets to UWM Finance and Entity leadership and their respective Boards.

This individual is a key member of the financial leadership team and serves as an advisor to the administrative and operating teams within UWM. With a focus on long-range financial planning and development of the annual operating and capital budgets, this individual manages the development and maintenance of multi-year, annual, and monthly key operating metrics, identifying underlying critical issues and, working with relevant entity and enterprise-level administrative and operational teams, communicates, implements and integrates necessary processes and procedures to establish fiscal accountability, achieve strategic goals, improve operating performance and reduce costs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Budget and Planning:

Oversees planning, scheduling and development of the long-range financial plan, annual operating and capital budgets for UWM Shared Services, ensuring relevance and consistency as well as usage of a common technology platform, approach and set of assumptions across the UWM entities.

In collaboration with UWM IT Services Finance representatives, coordinates and oversees development of the UWM IT Services long-range plans, operating and capital budgets ? ensuring overall consistency in approach and method with the other UWM entities.

Under the direction of the UWM Budget and Planning Director, assists with the development and execution of expectations around budget accountability. Provides analytic and system support to managers in the review, understanding and mitigation of budget variances in support of improving overall profitability.

Ensures both Shared Services and UWM review and approval hierarchy of decision-making for long-range planning, budgets and financial analysis are in place.

Develops and maintains highest quality standardized core presentation materials for budget and planning report-outs to Shared Service, Finance, UWM and Operational Leadership and their related Boards.

Participates in the design and implementation of appropriate long-range planning and consolidated budgeting systems and policies across all UW Medicine operational and business units. Assures that a high level of service and consistency is achieved.

Management Reporting / Performance Improvement:

Oversees development reports and tools for measuring productivity and/or profitability against budget, financial targets and relevant industry \"benchmarking\" standards. Has accountability for maintenance and update of benchmarking tools as well as for providing entity-level support around the interpretation and use of benchmarking data.

Participates in the development and implementation of quality and service metrics and standards for areas of accountability. Coordinates with operational and administrative department contacts to determine the best methods and procedures for providing relevant and user-friendly performance reporting.

Creates standard and ad-hoc reporting tools for efficiently accumulating, analyzing and reporting financial information consistently from various source systems for areas of accountability.

Prepares and presents written and verbal reports to executive management as requested.

Provides subject matter expertise in the planning, design and implementation of the enterprise budgeting and financial reporting systems.

Other Duties:

Participates in budgeting and reporting standardization projects across health system entities.

Builds effective, collaborative working relationships throughout the organization with staff, peers, supervisors and customers.

Represents UW Medicine Finance on committees or task forces as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Six to eight (6-8) years as a financial management professional in a large hospital or health system is required.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required.

In-depth knowledge of healthcare accounting; current in new regulations and trends is required.

Exceptional skill level in using presentation and visualization applications such as PowerPoint, Spotfire, or Tableau is required.

Strong skill using Budgeting and General Ledger applications as well as supporting software programs, including Excel, Word and Access is required.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

DESIRED:

Academic Medical Center experience is desired.

CPA and/or MBA in business or healthcare administration is preferred. REQUIREMENTS: see above
