The University of Virginias Office of Audit and Compliance seeks a Senior IT Auditor to join their team. The Senior IT Auditor will conduct audits of information technology resources and operating procedures, and evaluate system development projects to ensure compliance with the organization's policies and procedures. They review and evaluate internal controls and prepare audit reports recommending improvements in controls, operations or systems. They also perform as the in-charge auditor on assigned audits. Senior IT Auditors direct the activities of staff auditors assigned to audits, and work with Audit leaders to set priorities. The Audit Department's mission is to enhance and protect organizational value by providing risk-based and objective assurance, advising, and insight. The internal audit program is coordinated with the Auditor of Public Accounts and the Office of the State Inspector General, and must comply with the Institute of Internal Auditors' (IIA) standards for the professional practice of internal auditing.
Conduct assigned audit engagements successfully from beginning to end
Develop audit scope and testing procedures relevant to risk and test objectives, with input from management. Identify significant risks and formulate related audit objectives.
Apply risk and control concepts to scenarios encountered and identify any potential issues
Identify and communicate to Audit Department leadership issues raised, offering recommended solutions relevant to units operations and risk
Supervise other auditors assigned to engagements, if applicable, providing guidance and overall review of deliverables
Obtain and review evidence ensuring audit conclusions are well-documented. Ensure audit conclusions are based on a complete understanding of the process, circumstances, and risk
Prepare audit reports expressing appropriate opinions and making helpful recommendations to correct deficiencies or strengthen internal controls with input from management
Ensure adherence to all applicable department and professional standards
Organize personal effort to be risk-based, productive, and efficient at all times
Ensure adequate focus on personal professional growth relevant to taking on more challenging assignments, in line with standard audit career progression - proactively seek relevant education and training opportunities
Respond to ad hoc inquiries and serve on committees as assigned.
Bachelor's degree, preferably in information systems, information technology, computer science or engineering, cyber security, or other relevant field.
At least two years experience in IT auditing or IT operations, or other relevant area.
Knowledge of information security principles and frameworks, general computing controls, business processes, auditing standards and technologies including operation systems, databases, applications and network architectures.
Understanding of systems-related internal controls.
Ability to evaluate risks and formulate related audit objectives with initiative and creativity.
Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations.
Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication in daily interactions. Skilled at guiding the work of others.
Experience handling all phases of an audit independently and mentoring staff auditors assigned to audits.
Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or other IT-related certification(s)
