The Patient Care Observer performs 1:1 observation or constant observation for assigned patient. This position is vital for patients who need extra one on one assistance. You may have to reorient patient to objects or people in the room, decrease room stimulation and orient patient and or family to their physical environment. Patient Care Observer accompanies patient when patient leaves the unit. Does not leave patient unless relieved by another staff member. Be sure that patient call bell is always within reach and notifies RN if anything becomes disconnected, alarms or equipment is malfunctioning. Promotes infection control by washing hands before and after patient contact. Maintains a safe environment and protects patients from injury. Assist patients in and out of bed, makes unoccupied beds. Prepares meal tray for patient and assists with feeding patient if needed.
Will be sitting most of the time on duty. Demonstrates effective body mechanics when moving and lifting equipment and patients. May be required to travel throughout hospital.
