General Summary Statement
The Patient Care Technician III supports the provision of quality patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, and works within the guidelines of established practice for the Patient Care Technician at The Chester County Hospital. Performs high quality Clinical Care for all cardiovascular patients and provides staffing support for the Cardiac Cath Lab. Supports the mission, philosophy and objectives of The Chester County Hospital and The Cardiovascular Program at all times. Adheres to all of the hospital policies and procedures

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care Responsibilities
1. Provides age appropriate care for the patient population served.
2. Uses appropriate resources for patients with special needs such as language barriers, sensory problems, altered cognition, cultural and religious needs.
3. Integrates principles of infection control & infection prevention into practice.
4. Uses standard precautions and uses personal protective equipment.
5. Interacts with the patient in a manner that preserves patient dignity, privacy, and meets psychosocial needs of the patient.
6. Assists patients with meals, feeds patients as needed.
7. Inventories patient belongings at admission, transfer and discharge.
8. Prioritizes and organizes work effectively within assigned shift.
9. Performs procedures within the scope of the Policy and Procedure Manual.
10. Provides direct patient care in the Cardiac Cath lab holding area
11. Prepares patient for their procedure including electronic patient data entry
12. Prepares patient for vitals including blood pressure, pulse oximetry, ekg, and respirations
13. Performs ankle-brachial-index
14. Initiates intravenous access and draws peripheral blood samples
15. Performs EKG testing
16. Performs and maintains competency with POC testing including glucose and ACT's
17. Cares for patients post procedure
18. Discusses discharge instructions with patients following their procedure
19. Readies patients for discharge including ambulation
20. Assists with community outreach programs
21. Attends staff meetings, in-services, and hospital provided conferences

Communication

1. Communicates patient and unit information to the RN and interdisciplinary care team in a timely manner.
2. Seeks help from RN when needed.
3. Informs the RN when experiencing difficulty completing an assignment.
4. Receives report and clarifies information as needed.
5. Informs RN when leaving the unit for any reason.
6. Introduces self to patient and explains procedures to patient and family.
