The PEC serves as the OB triage unit, HUP's ED for pregnant women greater than 16 weeks gestation. It houses 10 triage beds, and an ultrasound evaluation area and is adjacent to HUPs Labor and Delivery suite. The PEC is one of the initial contact areas for patients with obstetric related concerns. It is staffed with nurses, both NPs and RNs who work together to triage and care for each patient, collaborating with the physicians to develop an individual plan of care. While the PEC and Labor and Delivery are distinct units, we function as one cohesive unit that works together to insure quality care to our patients. Each person is an integral part of a TEAM that includes physicians, nurses, surgical technicians, and support staff. With a team approach we are better able to provide this quality care to our population.
