The Histotechnologist utilizes knowledge of staining technique with ability to utilize independent judgment; correct and troubleshoot problems formulates and implements corrections. Proper identification of slides through sorting, labeling, coverslipping, and filing glass slides. Knowledge of chemical and mathematical principals to accurately prepare critical reagents, solutions, and vital dilutions of antibodies. Operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of highly specialized equipment such as autostainers, and cryostats. Screening and verification of quality of slides used for differential diagnosis. Performing all immunohistochemistry (IHC) techniques, utilizing a variety of antibodies with an assortment of antigen retrieval methodologies, including hematologic studies. Operational knowledge of Laboratory Information System (LIS) as it relates to Anatomic Pathology. Performing all FDA approved tests for both IHC. Teaching and instructing residents, technologists, and students.
