Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center (DDPC) is a 51-bed psychiatric hospital serving the entire State of Maine that provides services for people with severe mental illness. As a member of a statewide community of care givers, DDPC collaborates with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, their community and personal supports, to provide recovery-oriented, respectful, compassionate, and effective psychiatric care and treatment in the least restrictive, safest, and most therapeutic environment we can create. Job duties: As DDPC's newest Charge Nurse, you will be offering guidance and support while maintaining a safe working environment, providing administrative support and oversight, and excellent, respectful, patient care. We are seeking a proven leader, with solid problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills; and someone who can adapt quickly in fast-paced and demanding situations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: + Supervise nursing staff; maintaining professionalism, providing support and guidance as needed. + Create a safe and positive work environment with the ability to identify problems and/or emergencies and respond in a calm efficient manner. + Identify priorities for patient care and safety, while collaborating with physicians and other disciplines. + Coordinate unit staff assignments (including admissions. discharges, and transports) with the most effective use of staff + Provide daily updates and intermittent reports to staff and treatment teams. + Ensure documentation by all unit staff is accurately completed, reported, and passed along throughout the other shifts. + Work closely with patients, their families and/or guardians, and treatment Teams, relaying expectations, and providing education and feedback. + Develop and implement treatment plans for patients upon identification of problems. + Ensure staff have been educated on changes within the department, and are performing within their scope of practice, following nursing policies and procedures at DDPC. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field and two (2) years of professional nursing experience -OR- graduation from an accredited school of nursing and three (3) years of professional nursing experience. Experience must include one (1) year overseeing and providing medical and/or psychiatric nursing care in a hospital facility.
